GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On Sunday, a Transportation Security Administration officer found a loaded gun in a man’s carry-on bag at the Grand Rapids based Gerald R. Ford International Airport. TSA officials say the gun was found in the carry-on bag at around 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. “Firearms and prohibited items continue to be detected at airport security checkpoints during this pandemic,” said Grand Rapid’s TSA Federal Security Director Roger Dubuc. The gun was found ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Gerald R. Ford International Airport tonight. The president will be in Traverse City before holding a 10:30 p.m. rally at the Grand Rapids based airport.

The man, Michael Reinoehl, 48, was killed as a federal task force attempted to apprehend him in Lacey, Washington, the official said. Reinoehl was the prime suspect in the killing of 39-year-old Aaron Jay Danielson, who was shot in the chest Saturday night, the official said. During the encounter, Reinoehl was shot by a law enforcement officer who was working on the federal task force, the official said. The official said Reinoehl had pulled a gun during the encounter and was shot by law enforcement. As soon as the adults jumped in, he pulled out a gun, Reinoehl said.

A Novi man was arrested and charged in a wire fraud scheme involving $3.1 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. According to the U.S. Attorneys Office Eastern District of Michigan, 44-year-old Antonio George is charged in a criminal complaint with one count of wire fraud. The PPP loan is guaranteed by Small Business Administration under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES Act). Small businesses across Michigan have received loans from the Paycheck Protection Program, and these loans have kept these businesses alive, said U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider in the release. Every dollar stolen from the program is a dollar stolen from struggling businesses in need.

WASHINGTON The White House coronavirus task force will host a news conference at 11 a.m. on Wednesday to address the rising number of COVID-19 cases across the country. Other states like Texas and California also reported an increase of around 48,000 COVID-19 cases each in the last week. DETROIT The U.S. Census Bureau, in coordination with federal, state and local health officials, will begin to drop off 2020 Census questionnaire packets at front doors of 106,631 households in Michigan next week. The Census Bureau began hand-delivering census materials on March 15 but suspended all fieldwork for this operation on March 18 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Gretchen Whitmer has formally requested a federal disaster declaration to open aid to assist in responding to historic flooding in Midland County. “Over the past two days, a major rainfall event in mid-Michigan led to the failure of two dams and severe flooding in affected areas. Thousands of people were forced to evacuate as water surged into their streets, homes, and businesses in the county of Midland,” said Gov. This funding will provide vital housing options for some of the most vulnerable among us, individuals with disabilities across Michigan, said HUD Midwest Regional Administrator Joseph P. Galvan.
