As of 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, AP is calling the presidential race in the state of Georgia in favor of Joe Biden. Biden will receive 16 electoral votes from Georgia -- however, a candidate is allowed to request a recount in Georgia if the margin is within 0.5 percentage points. As of Thursday, Biden leads over Trump in Georgia by more than 12,000 votes, which is a 0.25 percent difference. A presidential candidate requires at least 270 electoral votes to win the election -- which Biden surpassed after winning the state of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The complete hand recount stemmed from an audit required by a new state law and wasn’t in response to any suspected problems with the state’s results or an official recount request. The secretary of state’s office has until Friday at 5 p.m. to certify the election results. While not formally a recount under the letter of state law, the hand tally conducted to complete the audit was effectively a recount in practice. Votes that hadn't previously been counted were found in several counties during the audit, which required recertification of the election results in those counties.

As of Friday, Nov. 6, Biden only needs one more state -- at least six electoral votes -- to get to 270 and be projected the winner. According to the AP’s projections, Biden has collected 264 electoral votes as of early Friday morning. Trump, meanwhile, has 214 electoral votes and needs to win Pennsylvania to stay in the race. There are four other states up for grabs: Alaska (3 electoral votes), Georgia (10), North Carolina (15) and Nevada (6).
