SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Thursday afternoon at a parking lot in Southfield. According to authorities, the shooting happened at about 3:15 p.m. in the parking lot of a shopping center near Nine Mile and Greenfield roads. A 27-year-old man, of Taylor, was shot and rushed to a hospital, where he was in critical condition. The suspected gunman, a 21-year-old Oak Park man, was taken into police custody. An accomplice, a 21-year-old Detroit man, also was taken into custody at 8 Mile and Greenfield roads.

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating a shooting Monday evening in the 18000 block of Greenfield Road that resulted in two women, ages 24 and 30, being injured. Police said as the driver pulled into a driveway of an unknown residence, multiple shots were fired from the Equinox toward the Fusion, striking the 24-year-old woman. A 30-year-old woman, who was driving south on Greenfield, was also struck. Police said the 24-year-old woman was listed in serious condition, and the 30-year-old woman was listed in temporary serious condition. The 24-year-old suspect is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall, 175 pounds with a short afro and dark-colored eyes.

DETROIT – A 44-year-old man was killed Thursday in a hit-and-run crash on Detroit’s west side, police said. The incident happened around 12:20 a.m. Thursday in the area of Schoolcraft and Greenfield roads, according to authorities. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man and called medical officials. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police at 313-596-2260.

Hanson, a student at Hanover College, is one of several college students being recruited to work as substitute teachers in schools during the pandemic. Coming to the rescue in many cases are college students who are themselves learning online or home for extended winter breaks. Over a dozen college students answered the call including his own daughter, 19-year-old Grace Kern, who is studying medical imaging technology at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis. College students have been tapped in growing numbers this year by Kelly Education, which contracts with districts to provide substitutes. In the past districts could manage by dividing an absent teacher’s students among the other teachers in the building.

DETROIT – Traffic on Interstate 96 was shut down for hours Tuesday afternoon as Michigan State Police tried to piece together a shooting on the freeway near Greenfield Road. A jeep that was struck in the shooting received damage to its back window, driver’s side window and door and one of the tires. Sources said the man driving the jeep told police he was shot at while driving on the Southfield Freeway north of Joy Road, which lead police to shut down the lanes Tuesday night and start walking the freeway looking for shell casings. Police sources said after the man was shot at, he pulled over near I-96 and Greenfield and called a family member to come and get him. It is unknown what led to the shooting.

DETROIT – One man, listed in stable condition, was injured in a shooting Saturday night in the area of West McNichols and Greenfield roads, according to Detroit police. Police said the 39-year-old man was driving a gray Dodge Ram when someone inside a white truck fired shots. The victim drove himself to the hospital. This is an ongoing investigation. Her family rushed to the hospital Friday as soon as they heard. Her family is calling for the driver to come forward or for any witnesses to do the same. DETROIT – Police cars and crime scene tape blocked the intersection of Joy and Greenfield roads for hours Tuesday morning. Lori Fields was on her way to the bus stop when the heavy police presence caught her attention. “I saw the police up here and I was like, ‘What happened?’ because obviously they have the whole street blocked off,” she said. Detroit police said a 66-year-old man was stabbed in his head and his butt at the intersection early Tuesday morning. They’re not certain what caused this stabbing, but this crime scene has Fields asking a lot of questions.

On Thursday night a 46-year-old woman was shot while driving in the area west of 8 Mile and Greenfield roads, police say. According to police, the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday while the victim was driving her silver 2016 Chevy Malibu. Police say someone in a gray SUV started firing shots, striking her. Family and friends gathered at the spot where Bryan White was killed to pray and embrace each other. He was an amazing father, Harris said. His friends described him as an outgoing and kind man killed in a senseless shooting. Even if you didnt know him, if you heard his laugh you would laugh, Harris said.

DETROIT - A 77-year-old store clerk was shot and killed during an armed robbery on Detroit's west side Saturday night. According to authorities, Lewis Purtus was closing up a store near the intersection of Schoolcraft and Greenfield roads when he was ambushed. Police said thieves demanded his money, shot him in the chest twice and fled the scene. Purtus' family said he was a loving grandfather who just celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary. DETROIT - A 16-year-old boy was shot outside a fireworks tent near the intersection of Joy and Greenfield roads. Police said he was riding his bike through the area Tuesday morning when he was shot. Police believe the boy may have tried to knock on the tent when someone inside the tent shot him. Authorities are reviewing surveillance cameras in the area to find out what happened. The investigation is ongoing.

The local lanes of Eastbound I-96 in Detroit were closed for several hours after a deadly motorcycle crash. According to Detroit Police, a man in his late 40's lost control of his motorcycle around 11:45 Wednesday night. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
