ANN ARBOR – Arbor Hospice and Hospice of Michigan have partnered to host virtual music therapy sessions for adults and children coping with grief after losing a loved one. Both sessions are free and will feature trained music therapists from Hospice of Michigan and Arbor Hospice. The New Year is often about resolutions, new beginnings, setting goals, and trying to achieve them, but that is no easy feat. One local lady, Grace Liang, has had to restart her life multiple times. Seeing and hearing children and teens talk about death and their emotions grieving can be emotional. She sees it daily as the director of Ele’s Place. Now, three decades later, Ele’s place has four locations across Michigan including right here in Ann Arbor, helping families cope. “They would call Ele’s Place and speak to one of our bereavement coordinators,” said Arvai. “One would not want to think that Ele’s Place is a place of sadness and grief,” she said.

ANN ARBOR – Grief of losing a loved one can be exacerbated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainties in the months that lie ahead, especially when paired with pre-existing anxiety and depression. Hospice of Michigan and Arbor Hospice have joined forces to help young adults in their 20s and 30s cope with grief through its online support group Living On For Young Adults. Run by trained, experienced grief counselors the program aims to address grief in a time when life during a pandemic can make it difficult to cope. ANN ARBOR, Mich. Ann Arbor-based Arbor Hospice and Hospice of Michigan are working together to offer this years Camp Good Grief online for free on Aug.15. Attendees at Virtual Camp Good Grief will have a chance to address their feelings, participate in grief education and emotional support activities, and interact with others going through similar experiences. Prior to Virtual Camp Good Grief, an education session for parents and guardians will be provided about the virtual format and about what children can expect during the camp. Arbor Hospice and Hospice of Michigan are both members of NorthStar Care Community and provide palliative care, emotional support services and pediatric hospice care among many other services. ANN ARBOR Local nonprofit GrieveWell will host its annual Kite Festival on Saturday on the grounds of Lillie Park Central from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.GrieveWell supports adults in grief through workshops, peer support and educational resources. The 4th annual Kite Festival offers participants of all ages the chance to celebrate life, honor the memory of loved ones, and enjoy the uplift and whimsy of kites, Carol Lessure, Executive Director of GrieveWell said in a statement. Fly your own kite and watch professional kite flyers demonstrate their skills at the event, in partnership with Pittsfield Township and Kites and Things Store in Plymouth. Winners will be chosen by the Kite Festivals participants and one winner will have their design printed onto a real kite. GrieveWell and Pittsfield Township ask that all participants at Lillie Park South adhere to state and CDC recommended guidelines including wearing a mask and practicing safe physical distancing.
