Police say a third death in Western Michigan in the early moments of the new year may have been caused by celebratory gunfire.

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Shots were fired on Saturday night after 10 p.m. at the Lynden Parke Apartments in Pittsfield Township. Pittsfield Police Officers and Washtenaw County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the complex at 2224 Golfside Road after receiving reports of shots fired and a report of a shooting directed at a subject. According to reports, an unknown person fired multiple rounds from a vehicle parked at Lynden Parke Apartments on the victim’s vehicle, and struck it several times. The gunfire also struck another vehicle and one of the apartment buildings.

MONROE, Mich. – A vehicle parked on the driveway of a home in the 500 block of Conant Street in Monroe was shot at 15 times Friday around 10 p.m. while two separate homes in the area were also struck with gunfire, police say. When police arrived to the area after complaints about gunfire were made they found over 25 spent shell casings from different guns. As of Saturday there were no reports of injured victims, police say. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Monroe Police Department Detective Bureau.

DETROIT – Police said an 18-month-old found a gun and shot and killed a 5-year-old in Detroit. “It’s a sad day in the city today. We lost another child in the city due to a lack of firearm safety. Police were called to a home in Detroit at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday regarding an incident where a child shot another child. Police said they believe the 18-month-old got ahold of an unsecured weapon and accidentally shot the 5-year-old.

DETROIT – A family in southwest Detroit was fast asleep when someone opened fire outside their home. “They almost got my daughter two feet from her head with a bullet,” said Juan Navarro, whose house was shot up. The shooting happened early Saturday morning at Green and Lafayette in Southwest Detroit. This was really random, don’t know who did it,” said Navarro. The Navarro family considered moving before and this random shooting has them concerned next time it might be worse.

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man that happened around 1:20 a.m. on Christmas Day. Information on the motive and location of the shooting have not been released by police. No arrests have been made. Police are still investigating the shooting. DETROIT Detroit police are investigating an incident involving gunfire that happened Friday afternoon in the area of Plymouth Road and Wyoming Avenue. Police say a shot was fired around 3 p.m. as officers tried stopping a man. Police say as the man ran from police he pulled out a gun. When officers heard the gun go off they grabbed the man and arrested him. According to police, although the gun went off, the man was not intentionally trying to target officers.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – The vehicle of a Ferndale resident trying to flee police Friday was shot at by an officer. The driver of the vehicle was alone when the Hazel Park officer approached her. Another female officer observed the vehicle pull into a residential driveway on Carlisle south of Woodward Heights. When the officer approached the vehicle from the back, the driver started reversing. A third officer arrived and followed the vehicle to W. Woodward Heights and N. Chrysler Service Drive.
