The substance was discovered on the eastbound side of the roadway, near the Couzens Road exit, on Dec. 20. Hexavalent chromium was found at at 0.14 milligrams per liter. The storm sewer eventually enters Lake St. Clair miles away, EGLE said. According to EGLE, the โrelease likely contributed contaminants to the storm sewer system before it was discovered.โThe cleanup could take months, officials said.
