Scammers impersonating federal agents are calling people and demanding account information or payment over the phone, according to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Michigan and Ohio.

DETROIT A 44-year-old man from Washtenaw County is facing child pornography charges nearly four years after being released from prison for a similar conviction. According to the complaint Stapleton was found to have been texting with minors, encouraging them to send sexually explicit photos and videos of themselves. The man said he would communicate with a child for a few days, get bored and move on to another, the complaint reads. Under the criminal complaint Stapleton has been charged with using and enticing a minor to produce child pornography, coercing and enticing a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity, possessing child pornography and transferring obscene material to a minor. Stapleton -- a registered sex offender -- was previously convicted of two counts of possession of child pornography in 2013 and was released from prison in 2015.

With the dark web on there, the content is becoming more prevalent and more horrific, said Matt Wright, the chief for the Child Exploitation Investigations Unit at Homeland Security Investigations. Agents work on probes involving money, drug smuggling or child sex trafficking. Agents and investigators initiated 4,224 child exploitation cases that resulted in 3,771 arrests and identification of 1,066 victims. President Barack Obama signed a law in February 2016 mandating notification when registered sex offenders traveled. The notice doesnt impede legal travel, but it does give countries a heads-up, especially in locations where child sex tourism and abuse are rampant, officials said.

WALLED LAKE, Mich. - A woman was charged with prostitution after an undercover officer was offered a sex act at a Walled Lake massage parlor, police said. Walled Lake police and Homeland Security Investigations officials have been investigating allegations of human trafficking and prostitution acts at the Dawn to Dusk massage parlor on South Commerce Road in Walled Lake, authorities said. An undercover officer went into the massage parlor Wednesday and was solicited for a sex act, officials said. Walled Lake police and HSI agents executed a search warrant and arrested Xiu Lan Chao, 53, according to authorities. Walled Lake police and HSI agents are continuing to investigate the case.

ICE has special customs agents, a branch of the agency many people haven't heard of. PORTLAND, Ore. - When you think of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE for short, the immigration side is what usually comes to mind. "During the investigation we found he had returned about 3,000 phones to Apple," said Williams. Finally, Williams showed the FOX 12 Investigators a case out of state still being investigated by HSI agents. Williams said being sentenced for counterfeiting and trafficking goods could get you up to 20-years in prison.

With the end of the school year days away, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is offering parents and young people some basic tips for online safety during the summer months. "We want to arm parents and young people with some very basic tips to keep them safe online. TIPS FOR PARENTS:Talk to children about Internet predators and whether they have ever been approached online. Let them know that online sexual exploitation of children is a crime and that it should be reported to law enforcement. Encourage them to report cyber bulling, not just when it happens to them but when they see others being bullied as well.
