A hearing, scheduled for July 23, could result in a license suspension or revocation for Harper's Restaurant and Brewpub, which currently is closed. Of the 186 COVID-19 cases linked to the bar, 144 of the infected people visited the establishment and 42 others were likely infected by someone who went there, said Ingham County Health Department spokeswoman Amanda Darche. The state health department on Thursday reported 645 additional confirmed COVID-19 cases and 16 deaths, including 13 deaths that occurred weeks or days earlier. Also Thursday, a judge rejected a movie theater's lawsuit challenging the Democratic governor's closure of movie theaters in lower Michigan to curb the virus.

On June 23, officials said more than a dozen people who visited Harper’s Restaurant and Brew Pub between June 12-20 had tested positive for COVID-19. Of the 185 people who have tested positive, 143 of them visited Harper’s, officials said. Health officials have identified 42 secondary cases, or people who got infected by someone who visited Harper’s and contracted the virus. On July 1 Whitmer closed a number of indoor bars as COVID-19 cases began to increase at a more rapid pace around the state.
