Road work on I-75 is resuming in Oakland County starting Friday and will close all freeway lanes between I-696 and Eight Mile Road over the weekend. When I-75 lanes reopen on March 1, only two lanes will be open in each direction from just south of Eight Mile Road to just north of 13 Mile Road, officials said. AdDuring the weekend road closure, I-75 traffic will be rerouted to the following:Northbound I-75 traffic will be detoured west on Eight Mile Road to northbound Woodward Avenue, then eastbound I-696 back to northbound I-75, andSouthbound I-75 traffic will be detoured to westbound I-696 to southbound Woodward Avenue, then eastbound Eight Mile Road back to southbound I-75. After the weekend closures, some lane and ramp closures will continue through the 2021 construction season in connection with the I-75 road work. Also after March 1, all southbound I-75 traffic will be shifted onto northbound lanes near 13 Mile Road to allow for crews to rebuild the southbound I-75 bridge over 13 Mile Road, officials said.

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A Clarkston woman was driving her normal route when a chunk of concrete from an overpass on Interstate 75 smashed into her windshield. Tracie Moonen was at Exit 93 on Dixie Highway at I-75 when the concrete hit her vehicle. Initially, she wondered if someone had thrown something, but the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office went out there and assessed what happened. MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – A search is underway for a driver who took off after hitting a Madison Heights officer and leading police on a chase down Interstate 75. At about 6 p.m. Monday, the Madison Heights Police Department was called to the Midas parking lot on 12 Mile Road west of John R Road to check on a man inside his car slumped over the wheel. The chase ended near 7 Mile Road with no sign of the man’s vehicle. Police identified the man as 31-year-old Justin John Crawford. Anyone with information is asked to call Madison Heights police.

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – An alleged drunk driver in an SUV collided with a police vehicle in Madison Heights Tuesday night. The crash happened on the 12 Mile Road exit ramp from Interstate 75 northbound. Police said the driver who collided with the officer may have been drunk. The officer is OK, and the driver was taken to a hospital.

ATLANTA – A concrete slab at a parking deck under construction in Atlanta collapsed Saturday — the second collapse at the site in as many days — sending a worker trying to shore up the structure plunging several stories below, authorities said. The 3,000-space parking garage is being built at one of Emory University’s hospitals just north of downtown Atlanta. On Friday, a section of concrete on the prefabricated parking deck partially collapsed, injuring six workers. Stafford said Saturday that a construction problem, not a faulty design, was to blame for that first collapse. Other construction workers were injured but managed to walk away from the collapse, Riley told reporters at the scene.

DETROIT – Michigan State Police said a Detroit man wanted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in July was officially charged and arraigned for the incident. Valerian Kobaidze, 32, was arraigned Thursday on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death, fail to stop at accident when in fault resulting in death and reckless driving causing death. The incident happened on July 14 on Interstate 75 southbound near Seven Mile Road. While the case being reviewed, Kobaidze left the state of Michigan and went to New York. State troopers assigned to the Second District Fugitive Team picked Kobaidze up from the New York City Sheriff’s Office Wednesday and brought back to Michigan.

Lanes are blocked on Southfield Freeway (M-39) northbound after Warren Avenue and southbound after Joy Road due to flooding. The left shoulder and left lane are also blocked on Interstate 94 westbound after Interstate 75. Rain is expected for Tuesday night into Wednesday. TROY, Mich. Any chance of a peaceful evening in Troys Beach Forest Subdivision is often drowned out by the traffic on Interstate 75. Several blocks south of here, they complain they cant open their windows because of the noise, said Beach Forest homeowner Chuch Pappas. Homeowner Verba Edwards has been lobbying the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for a sound wall for the last four years. Homeowner Chris Steele said, My reaction was well its loud enough to wake the dead.MDOT stated that the sound wall is for an adjacent complex. However, homeowners still fear that not witnessing the certain level of noise they previously experienced could lower their property taxes.

GROVELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. A motorcyclist was killed when a woman rear-ended them at a high rate of speed early Sunday morning, officials say. Michigan State Police say at about 3:30 a.m. a woman was traveling north on I-75 near Lahring Road at a high rate of speed when she rear-ended the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was killed from the impact of the crash, officials said. The woman who struck the motorcyclist was arrested for operating her vehicle while intoxicated. Northbound lanes of I-75 and two southbound lanes were closed on Sunday following the crash.

ERIE TOWNSHIP, Mich. Three people were killed when the car they were traveling in spun out of control and rolled in the median of an Interstate 75 construction zone in southeastern Michigan, police said. The car went out of control for unknown reasons Friday night in Erie Township, rolled, came to rest in a ramp and then was struck by a second vehicle, police told the Monroe News. Two of the three victims were ejected from the car while the third remained inside, police said. LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – Michigan State Police are investigating a non-fatal shooting that injured a child in Lincoln Park on Sunday afternoon. Police say at around 3:30 p.m. a suspect pulled alongside the victim’s car on the northbound I-75 ramp to Outer Drive. The suspect shot at the vehicle multiple times and struck an 18-month-old child, officials said. Michigan State Police’s Special Investigation Section is investigating the incident at the request of Lincoln Park Police. Officials say this is not a random incident.

DETROIT Both sides of I-75 near I-94 will be closed in Detroit this weekend as crews demolish a bridge originally constructed in 1969. During the closure, the posted detour for northbound I-75 follows westbound I-94, northbound M-10 (Lodge Freeway), and eastbound M-8 back to northbound I-75. Southbound I-75 traffic will use westbound M-8 to southbound M-10, back to southbound I-75. All ramps, except for Holbrook Avenue to southbound I-75, will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 1. In addition, crews will close the left lane on southbound I-75 from Clay Street to Piquette Avenue starting at 9 a.m. Friday to mobilize demolition equipment.

Interstate 75 is closed in both directions at I-696 due to water on the freeway, officials announced Tuesday night. It's unclear how long the freeway will be closed. AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Auburn Hills and Troy firefighters were battling brush fires Tuesday afternoon along Interstate 75 between M-59 and Adams Road. The fire departments said the cause of the string of brush fires is not yet known. Traffic was moving slowly on the interstate near North Squirrel Road in Auburn Hills. Firefighters had blocked one lane.
