DETROIT – On Saturday, the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) issued a statement on a 30 inch transmission main break. The 30-inch water transmission main is located on Marquette Street just south of Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. Although water service has not been interrupted the issue caused flooding in the area, according to the GLWA. While this incident has not impacted water service, there has been significant flooding in the impacted area, which runs from Marquette Street on the West to Harding Street on East, Jefferson on the North to Freud Street on the South. GLWA will work with residents in the impacted area to address the damage caused by the water main break,” read the statement released by the GLWA.

DETROIT – An announcement Thursday is a sign that Detroit’s revival is branching out from Downtown -- Meijer is planing to open a new location on Detroit’s east side. The new, small-scale grocery store, a part of the Rivertown Market, will fill a major need in the neighborhood. Meijer opened a store at Eight Mile Road and Woodward Avenue in 2013 and the old Redford High School became a Meijer in 2015, but the east side still had a long trip to the grocery store -- until now. I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you!”Usually a Meijer takes up blocks, but not this one. The Rivertown Market is going to be a scaled-down, urban footprint in the greening of Detroit Park on East Jefferson Avenue.

While Meijer stores are typically sprawling spaces that take up a few blocks, that won’t be the case for the new store on East Jefferson Avenue. Many Detroiters have complained about how difficult it can be to buy groceries in the city. While there’s a Meijer on Eight Mile Road, the city’s east side has been essentially a food desert.

DETROIT – Southbound I-375 will be closed at Larned Street in Detroit for about two weeks for emergency repairs, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Crews are closing the highway for concrete repair and curing in cold temperatures, officials said. All southbound traffic will exit at Larned Street, just north of Jefferson Avenue. The diversion will last through early November. One northbound lane of I-375 will be closed through Tuesday (Oct. 20).

DETROIT – A shooting in Detroit injured two men Sunday morning. According to authorities, it happened at about 12:40 a.m. near the intersection of E. Jefferson Avenue and Chrysler Street, just south of Lafayette Boulevard. Both men in the vehicle were struck and the driver transported himself and the passenger to a hospital, where the the 25-year-old was listed in serious condition and the 26-year-old was listed in critical condition. RIVER ROUGE, Mich. – A security camera captured video of a River Rouge gas station shooting that left a man dead earlier this week. The video shows three people getting out of a silver Chrysler 300, walking over to another and firing shots around 6 p.m. Monday at the gas station on Visger Road between Jefferson Avenue and Fort Street. His family identified him as Alex Minor, of River Rouge. The owner of the gas station, Emad Saleh, said the gunmen then sped up the street to get to Minor’s girlfriend, who was in another car with children inside. All of this happened because of ‘Operation Legend.’ United States officials said more federal agents are coming to Detroit in the next couple of weeks to help ease the recent violence in Detroit, and agents are here to assist with the gun violence. Officials say at around 10:57 a.m. the man entered a gas station in the 2000 block of East Jefferson Avenue without wearing a face mask. When an employee told the man that a face mask was required to receive service, he became enraged and began making threats, police say. Officials say the man then pushed in the security screen window that separates the employee from the customers. The employee was struck in the body by the screen window, according to police. DETROIT A Freedom Rally was held in Detroit Friday to celebrate Juneteenth -- a 155-year-old holiday celebrating the emancipation of slaves in Galveston, Texas. DETROIT – Police are searching for an 88-year-old woman who went missing over the weekend when she left her Detroit home to go to a meeting. Roberta McClendon was last seen around 2 p.m. Sunday when she left her home in the 18000 block of Moenart Street in Detroit to go to a meeting, according to authorities. GROSSE POINTE, Mich. - There was a moment of silence held at the Grosse Pointe South football game as students and parents cope with a crash that left a 15-year-old seriously injured Thursday. Superintendent Gary Niehaus said a 15-year-old sophomore was riding a bicycle on Jefferson Avenue near Lakeland Street when a 17-year-old boy driving a vehicle accidentally ran into the 15-year-old. The victim is in the intensive care unit in critical condition. The game announcer spoke about the 15-year-old during the game and the players are also rallying around the driver. The district is offering counseling to students who are trying to cope and the Grosse Pointe Community is coming together.

He drove normally as the driver of the Dodge continued on Jefferson Avenue toward Van Dyke Avenue. The officer continued down Jefferson Avenue and saw the suspect vehicle on Van Dyke Avenue north of Jefferson Avenue, where it had crashed into an electric pole. Police found the 19-year-old driver walking away and placed him under arrest for warrant violation and fleeing police.

DETROIT - The Detroit Police Dive Team has found the body of a man who went missing in the Detroit River. The 35-year-old man was reported missing overnight at the Erma Henderson Marina on Jefferson Avenue. A witness told police the man accidentally stepped off the dock near the seawall and fell into the river. The dive team found his body several hours later Thursday morning in a canal at the marina. DETROIT – An 18-year-old man was found shot early Wednesday morning behind a gas station at Jefferson Avenue and Pennsylvania Street in Detroit. Police first got a call for an armed robbery about 3 a.m. They went to the Citgo gas station and found the victim lying on the ground outside the station. The man had suffered a gunshot wound to his right hip. One of them was armed with a handgun.
