Many big, brand name food companies are struggling because of pressure from big grocery retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Target and Kroger, to keep prices low. Competition from innovative upstarts that are selling organic and natural products is a problem for many large traditional food companies, too. Smucker said Tuesday that Nutrish, the brand of dog and cat food endorsed by celebrity chef Rachael Ray, has been struggling. Smucker's bought Nutrish parent company Ainsworth in 2018 for nearly $2 billion.
