On Monday (June 19), all across the country and here in Metro Detroit, people are celebrating Juneteenth; The origin of the holiday dates back to the 1860s when the enslaved were emancipated in the U.S.

Tuesday marks the 80th anniversary of the 1943 Detroit race riots. Brawls started on Belle Isle and then spread to downtown. Thirty-four people died; nine were white, and 25 were Black. Seventeen of the Black people killed were by police.
