For 40% of women with dense breast tissue, their annual mammogram isn’t enough to detect early breast cancer. But now, a new technology called SoftVue may improve early detection, and the Karmanos Cancer Institute had its first patient undergo the new imaging Thursday.

Powell, a doctor of urologic oncology at Karmanos Cancer Institute, specializes in prostate cancer. Local 4 is profiling Dr. Powell for Black History Month as a change maker in our community. Powell went on to medical school and became a successful surgeon, and thought leader in prostate cancer research.
