Kila Peeples took on the challenge to see if she could make a DIY black light, and a lamp out of a water bottle, with a little help from her cell phone flashlight. The weather is getting warmer, which means that we need to start cleaning off that winter dust. Why not start with your car? With all of the sunshine that we’ve been having the past few days seems to highlight the fact that our car interiors may need a little T.L.C. Kila Peeples found a popular cleaning gel called TiCarve, that looks like a kid’s toy, but is supposed to be great for cleaning multiple places in your car. We love our pets, but sometimes they can leave a furry mess on your furniture and carpet. It is called Fur-Zoff, and is made from foamed glass that resembles a pumice stone that you would use for a pedicure. Kila tried it on her couch and her area rug, while the pets who caused the furry mess watched with curiosity. Did Fur-Zoff work on her fur covered furniture? Watch the video above to see if this Try It Out Tuesday was paws up or paws down!

Many are planning a romantic (at-home) date for Valentine’s Day, and one way to show your love is to seal it with a kiss. But, what if your lipstick leaves more than a lasting mark than the kiss? Kila Peeples found an article that claimed there are lipsticks that are non-transferable, a.k.a kiss-proof. She tried two of them to see if the make-up stayed put on her lips or left a kiss print. Did the lipstick stay on her lips?

However, when you do it, the desired look comes out looking... less than desirable. The winged eye is a classic look that has been a staple in the fashion industry, now you can get the look too with easy. Kila Peeples tried a winged eye stamp that she found online to get the hot look. She also tried another way with something that you would normally wear in your hair. Almost everyone promises to eat healthier at the beginning of a new year, but sometimes that sweet tooth will cry out for a treat. Is there a way to enjoy sweets, like a slice of cake or a cupcake, and still stay on the healthy path? Kila Peeples found a way to still have a baked goods, but you swap out the eggs and oil for a healthy, savory fruit. Kila made cupcakes using store-bought cake mix, but instead of using the three eggs and vegetable oil, she used one large avocado. Watch the video above to see if Jason Carr and Tati Amare can taste the difference between cupcakes baked traditionally or with an avocado.

Many of us probably consumed more food and drinks than anticipated this holiday season, and throughout 2020. Getting back into healthy eating and working out can be tough, so why not get a little help from a fitness app? Kila Peeples tried two free mobile apps, My Fitness Pal and Lose It! She also used a FitBit, which helps with staying active and monitors your sleep patterns, which can affect your metabolism. Watch the video above to see how the apps worked for Kila.

Winter is upon us and we are all feeling the effects. Dry skin and eyes are always a common issue when it is cold outside, but your hair can really take a blow. Kila Peeples spoke to hairstylist Tiffany Newton, of Newton Style Me, to find out what can be done to fix our hair’s winter blues. Sometimes when you are cooking, you might feel like you have every pan going at once. For this Try It Out Tuesday, Kila Peeples cooked breakfast using a divided cast iron pan. One local teen has a summer job unlike most: He’s running his own company! Kila Peeples caught up with Finn Gomez of Detroit Salsa Company to see how his booming business keeps him busy. Not only is the high school senior running the company, he’s also preparing for school, applying to colleges, and doing another thing that makes him happy, playing the trumpet. There are plenty of places you can go where you can get out and enjoy winter festivities. Kila Peeples went to a few towns that are just right for some cold weather fun. This week’s Try It Out Tuesday had us finding new ways to enjoy an iconic holiday candy that you may have a lot of around the house right now. Kila Peeples found a couple of ways to upcycle candy canes, by including them in her favorite morning drink. She found recipes to make homemade coffee creamer and syrup using crushed candy canes. Not only did Kila have fun preparing the candy canes (crushing them was a great stress reliever), but making the syrup and creamer wasn’t as hard as she thought it would be. Jump in the car with the family and hit the road! There are a lot of neighborhoods in Metro Detroit that have homes with holiday light shows that are like seeing a professional show. Kila Peeples found a couple of holiday light shows that are worth checking out after hours. One is the Bostick Family home on Sheridan Street in Garden City which has lights dancing to a playlist of songs that range from traditional holiday music to movie soundtracks. Another home Kila went to is the Busch Family light show, where you can see music videos and celebs dancing on a tree during the 45-minute show,Watch the video above to see how amazing these light shows (and the families that run them) are!

You’re baking away in the kitchen and you run out of powdered sugar. You’ve got cookies in the oven and you can’t run to the store! Kila Peeples discovered a way to get more of your key ingredient using two items that you can find in your pantry. Put a half cup of regular sugar in a mixer, along with a tablespoon of cornstarch and mix for about five minutes. Kila tried this out and then made two batches of frosting, one with store-bought powdered sugar, and another with the sugar she made.

As we prepare for the holiday season, why not do it with some fun crafts?! Kila Peeples found a cute and, surprisingly easy, way to decorate your home using something that you would normally use in your kitchen. All you need are hand towels, lots of cotton balls, and a hot glue gun. In a few short minutes, you will have a beautiful holiday pillow; great to put up on your mantel or on your couch. Watch the video above to see how to make the pillows and a smart tip you can use if you run out of cotton balls.

With everyone being in the house for the next three weeks, parents will be looking for ways to entertain their kids. Of course there are board games, video consoles, and TV, but why not get a little creative with the fun? For this week’s Try It Out Tuesday, Kila Peeples showed how you can enjoy quality family time with baking soda and other household items. When you add shaving foam or hair conditioner to baking soda, you get some crazy stuff! Watch the video above to see what Kila created!

Peeling this pesky vegetable can be frustrating, and quite fragrant. Garlic cloves can be tricky to open, but Kila Peeples found a few ways to peel them perfectly. For this week’s Try It Out Tuesday, she tried a traditional way to peel garlic by smashing it with a kitchen utensil, another way by shaking the entire bulb in a mason jar, and finally, by putting the bulb in the microwave for 20 seconds. Drop a bomb on the cold weather with a new hot drink trend. A piping hot mug of hot chocolate is always nice when it’s freezing outside, and now there is a sweet way to have some fun with it. Hot chocolate bombs are the new popular way to enjoy the sweet drink. It’s a hollow chocolate ball filled with hot chocolate mix and marshmallows or even flavored instant coffee. There have been some changes in our lifestyles over the past few months and one thing that is really going to be different this year is Halloween. Some people may not be up for handing out candy to trick-or-treaters for safety reasons, but Kila Peeples had a creative way you can still have some Halloween fun, and still be socially distant. Kila made a candy chute out of a 6 foot long PVC pipe she purchased from the hardware store and decorated it with traditional Halloween goodies that are found at any store. She made a spooky chute, perfect for giving out candy in a short amount of time and for under $20. Watch the video above to see how Kila made her Halloween candy chute!

There is a new feature film being made here in Detroit! No one is more excited than Kila Peeples, who is on a mission to see some of the stars of this movie. She explained some of the highlights about the movie, and how some local businesses are helping to welcome the cast and crew to the D. The film is called No Sudden Move, it stars Don Cheadle, Jon Hamm, David Harbour of Stranger Things fame, and many more famous actors. Kila spoke to Megan Lewis from DeVries & Company in Eastern Market and Tara Grey, owner of Gus and Grey Handcrafted Delights, who are creating baskets of artisans foods to welcome the stars. The Wolverines and the Spartans are back to playing football this weekend, but with that comes some changes to our annual game time traditions. We can’t be in the stands, you can only watch from TV, and there’s no tailgating at the stadium allowed. One tailgate tradition in Michigan is to play a game of cornhole, and Kila Peeples found just the place that can make your game day a winner. Owner Zach Olevenick began making cornhole gear after he played a game with his family over 15 years ago and fell in love with it. Watch the video above to see where cornhole gets its name from, how to play, and the unique boards that can be custom made for you.

Halloween is around the corner and what better way to get into spooky season than to take a trip into the forest at Glenlore Trails: The Haunted Forest. Even though many events are cancelled or not happening this year, this popular sensory experience recently changed over from a family fun trail, to a a Halloween inspired forest that is great for any age group. Kila Peeples went through the the 1/2 mile trail and showed some of the fun and (slightly) frightening visual effects you will pass as you stroll the path. It may be getting a little chilly outside, but you can still enjoy some yummy, summer frozen treats. Kila Peeples stopped by Modern Cone, a family-owned ice cream shop that has “nacho” ordinary sundae. Not only does Modern Cone offer more than 50 flavors of hard scoop ice cream, but also 50 different toppings to put on top of your desserts. Plus, they offer two creations that are hard to find anywhere else, the Stackers parfait and ice cream nachos! Sometimes the most unexpected things can help out in ways you didn’t even know it could. She discovered that you can use uncooked rice to help clean your home and even provide a little comfort when you are in pain. Here are three ways she was able to use rice around the house. First, she cleaned a coffee pot carafe with a cup of rice and a cup of water. Watch the video above to see how she made rice work around the house.

Jason Carr has one of the best home bar set-ups; it even has it’s own name, The Carr Bar! As we spend more time at home, why not strive to make your bar set-up as fabulous as Jason’s? Kila Peeples went to three places in and around Detroit to find drinks that are not only delicious, but will get you to Carr Bar status. Most people love it on a sandwich or certain foods, but mayo can be used for much more than we thought it could. Kila Peeples found a few ways mayo can help you out around the house. If your doors are driving you crazy with squeaky hinges, take a dollop of mayo and put it on the hinges. Again, take a bit of mayo on paper towel and it will wipe the sticker off in no time. Watch the video above to see more ways you can use mayo around the house.

You, or someone in your family, uses this in your kitchen almost daily and it can get quite dirty. Kila Peeples wanted to find a way to make her microwave sparkle, without using all of the strong cleansers. So, she tried to clean it with a couple of items that are also in the kitchen. She tested whether white vinegar or baking soda could clean her microwave the best, and it was a close call. Watch the video above to see which kitchen staple knocked out the dirt.

By now you may be itching to get off of your couch and actually go to the movies. Even though our movie theaters are not open yet, there is a way to enjoy a flick outside of your home. The Film Lab in Hamtramck is hosting movies on their patio, where people can sit outside and watch a classic movie under the stars. Not only do they show movies on their patio, but they also offer craft cocktails and snacks for purchase. Watch the video above to see everything The Film Lab has to offer.

As you start pulling out your cold weather clothes you may notice that some of your coats or sweaters have little clusters of fabric, or pilling, on them. There are ways you can get rid of those pesky pills with a few handy items. Kila Peeples tried two ways; one was using a gadget she purchased on Amazon, and the other was using a disposable razor. Jason Carr also showed his handy Conair Fabric Shaver that he uses on his favorite knit sweater. Watch the video above to see how well they worked!

We normally use toothpaste twice a day to brush our way to clean teeth and fresh breath. Kila Peeples found a way to use toothpaste in ways we never would have thought to use it. If your bathroom counter is covered in make-up residue, take a small amount of paste and rub it on the counter until the make-up is gone. Take an old toothbrush, a dollop of toothpaste, and scrub. There is a very popular event going on in Metro Detroit that is taking everyone by surprise. Glenlore Trails in Commerce Township is a half-mile wooded trail filled with sensory activities that’s fun for the entire family. She enjoyed her trip around the trails, taking in the fairytale-like music coming from the trees and the bright, colorful drawings and moving paintings. Tickets are being scooped up fast, but if you miss this opportunity, there will be a Halloween trail and a Hip-Hop Nutcracker version for the holidays. There is nothing worse than having a beautiful green avocado that youve cut and wanted to save for later, turning brown. Instead of throwing it away, there are a couple of ways you can save your avocado. Kila Peeples tried a few methods dedicated to keeping your avocado from turning brown. She paired a half of an avocado with a quarter of an onion, another with lemon juice, one with the pit still in it, and one left alone. Watch the video above to see which method helped her avocado stay green!

Weve all experienced that moment when we take our clothes out of the dryer and you get a shock. With the help of science, Kila tried to see if she could stop the static by putting a ball of aluminum foil in the dryer before the drying cycle. The reason why this may work is because the foil is supposed to discharge the static in the dryer, preventing shocks. Plus the foil is supposed to dry clothes faster too. Watch the video to see if the foil helped get rid of the static!

We are in the dog days of summer, and what better way to enjoy the nice weather than to enjoy a meal or drinks on a patio? Kila Peeples went to three restaurant patios in Detroit that not only offer amazing food, but also a great ambiance. Cork and Gabel in Corktown is known for its tasty cuisine, and features an eclectic patio that has a direct view of the historic Michigan Central Train Depot. The restaurant has expanded its eye-catching patio into The Garden, where you can people-watch and listen to music from the adjacent beach area. Watch the video above to see these cool patios.

Kila Peeples talked to Dino Dustin and Safari Sarah from Jurassic Quest about a new way your family can visit the dinosaurs. The dinosaurs are roaring around the Energy Music Theater in Clarkston. Instead of walking around the park you and your family can drive around the exhibits in your vehicle. Families can download an audio clip to play as they drive through the quest to learn more about the dinosaurs. Jurassic Quest has lots of water reptiles.

Sometimes when you are getting ready for your day, you might start running behind because the bathroom mirror is foggy due to the hot shower, or maybe you get make-up on your clothes because youre in a rush. She found a couple of ways to shave time off of her daily routine with shaving cream. First, Kila tried putting shaving cream on the bathroom mirror to keep it from fogging-up during a shower. Then she tried using it to remove a make-up stain from clothing. Watch the video above to see if shaving cream helped make Kilas daily routine move faster.

Kila Peeples took a tour of the picturesque Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, where you can enjoy a stroll around the serene scene. The history behind the house is very interesting. It is where Edsel and Eleanor Ford raised their family, and when Eleanor passed away in 1976, she requested the house be open to the public. The Edsel and Eleanor Ford House is located along Lake St. Clair and offers beautiful views. Watch the video above to learn more about Edsel and Eleanor Ford House.

You might be getting ready for work or an event and you go to iron your outfit and BOOM! The iron doesnt work! Kila Peeples heard of a way to possibly smooth out the wrinkles in clothing when you dont have access to an iron. Does it work? Many of you see us out and about around town, especially Tati Amare asking people questions for Talking with Tati. Now, we are flipping the script and instead we are having you to ask us anything! The whole team of Jason Carr, Tati Amare, Kila Peeples and Michelle Oliver, answered two of viewer questions today. First question was for Tati and Jason from Lynn Rushing, she asked them where is there favorite place to go in Michigan and why? The other question was from Katrina Meyers, who asked Kila and Michelle what is the best life advice someone has giving you.

If youre an animal lover, this place in South Lyon should definitely be added to your destination list. Kila Peeples visited this hidden gem called Carousel Acres, a farm that is filled with various farm and exotic animals. Carousel Acres has traditional farm animals including horses, pigs, and cows. Not only is Carousel Acres a petting farm, but its also a day camp for kids. Watch the video above to see everything a visit to Carousel Acres has to offer!

Sometimes eating corn on the cob can be tricky, it gets stuck in between your teeth or you might drop the cob. Kila Peeples discovered a clever way to remove the entire corn kernel from the cob with something that you would normally use after you eat. Kila tried this method many, many times and she didnt get the results that she hoped for. Kila also said she found a way to remove the kernels by running a spoon along a row on the cob and plucking them. Watch the video above to see how Kila tried to pick the corn off of the cob.

The summer heat and rain may be beating up your outdoor furniture, but there is a way to bring back its luster. Kila Peeples discovered a way to dress up your wood furniture with some surprising items. Kila has a handcrafted wood table that she loves, but has seen better days. She found a cleaner that involves two things that you would find in your pantry, olive oil and vinegar. Feel free to add a few drops of essential oils to get rid of the vinegar smell.

Want to step back in time and visit a Detroit from another era? That is possible at Hammer & Nail. The midtown Detroit bar captures a mid-century Detroit feel through its decor and menu. Kila Peeples visited Hammer & Nail to find out why it would be a great place to visit after hours. The building used to be known around town as the hammer and nail building because of the neon hammer sign that hung outside its building.

Do these fizzy drinks work better for plants than traditional water? Kila Peeples found a few people who say that watering your flowers with various drinks can be beneficial. Do they work better than traditional water? She tested these theories for a couple of weeks to see which one worked the best. Watch the video above to see which drink helped her flowers grow!

An icy cold pop is delightful during the hot summer days, but some say Coca Cola can do so much more. Team up this fizzy drink with a common item found in your kitchen cabinet, and you might take a shine to the results. Kila Peeples heard that if you wipe rusty areas with Coke, the rust will disappear. Kila took her trusty, and rusty, bike out, and cleaned areas with Coke and the two items. The day is meant to inspire your holiday gift giving plan, particularly if you are making gifts by hand. Kila Peeples went to a shop in Grosse Pointe Woods to see how holiday pre-planners can get a jump start on their own homemade gifts. The ladies at the Knotted Needle said this is prime time to begin knitting gifts for your family. All you have to do is dedicate time either each day or over the weekend and you can be wrapped up (get it?) Watch the video above to see what great gifts you can make by needlepoint or knitting.

Some may think that living in an apartment or having a garden on the smaller side means you cant have a wonderful sprawl of flowers. Kila Peeples went to Ray Wiegands Nursery in Romeo to find the perfect flowers and plants for a small patio, and what will bring pretty butterflies and other pollinators to your door. There are a variety of flowers to choose from if you have a smaller patio or garden area. From Begonias to Creeping Jenny plants that cascade down the sides of your flower pot, there are groups of flowers that thrive in small spaces. Kids are always looking for a way to help out in the kitchen, but sometimes it is hard for them to do so when it comes to using sharp knives. Sometimes parents dont feel that their kids are ready to handle them. Kila Peeples discovered how to cut with an item usually found in the bathroom: Dental floss!! Kila tried cutting watermelon, cookie dough, and cheesecake with non-flavored dental floss. Watch the video above to see if dental floss can be used as a knife!

Kila tried a box called Tea Pray Love. It is a box that has all of the things you need to have a delightful relaxing day. One of the biggest trends that has spike while people have stayed home and stayed safe is puzzles! This pastime, which has been around since the 1700s, has gotten new life, with some places selling out. Live In The Ds Kila Peeples tried her hand at some newer puzzles including one that doesnt even have a picture on it. Its a clear puzzle thats dubbed one of the hardest puzzles to complete. Did you know you can use your cupcake pan and the liners for a multitude of other things? For this Try It Out Tuesday, Kila Peeples decided to make her Taco Tuesday even better, by making a large taco shell. And get this, she made it by using her cupcake pan upside down!
