There was more bad news Friday as the Colonial Athletic Conference became the fourth Championship Subdivision league to call off its fall football season, but with a twist. The surge in COVID-19 cases in many areas of the country where big-time college football is played increases the need for more frequent testing and quick delivery of results, Binney said. ___Follow Ralph D. Frustration at utility rising as California blackouts endure
Read full article: Frustration at utility rising as California blackouts endureIt wasn't clear if power, that for many went out Saturday, would be restored before the next round of outages. What was clear was that patience was wearing thin and frustration at the utility was growing. Powerful winds were driving multiple fires across California and the deliberate shut-offs were intended to prevent blazes. Many Californians are skeptical of PG&E's motives for the blackouts, and feel the utility is more concerned with its finances than the massive inconvenience it's causing. The Public Utilities Commission plans to open a formal investigation into the blackouts within the next month, allowing regulators to gather evidence and question utility officials.

It included the Sierra Nevada foothills and parts of well-to-do Marin County, population 260,000, north of San Francisco. In Lafayette, near San Francisco, where many people lost power on Saturday, people criticized PG&E for poorly communicating about the shutoffs. The California Public Utilities Commission plans to open an investigation into the blackouts that could result in fines against PG&E if it is found to have violated any regulations. ___Associated Press writers Jocelyn Gecker in Berkeley and Lafayette, California, and Jonathan J. Cooper in Phoenix contributed to this story.

Utility says power lines may have started 2 California fires
Read full article: Utility says power lines may have started 2 California firesSAN FRANCISCO, CA Pacific Gas & Electric Co. said Monday its power lines may have started two wildfires over the weekend in the San Francisco Bay Area. PG&E told the California Public Utilities Commission that a worker responded to the first fire around 4:45 p.m. Sunday and was told firefighters believe contact between a power line and a communication line may have caused it. Contra Costa fire Department personnel on site told the worker they were looking at the transformer as a potential ignition source, a company official wrote. Powerful winds are driving multiple fires across Northern California and forcing power shut-offs intended to prevent downed power lines that can spark blazes. PG&E is under severe financial pressure after its equipment has been blamed for a series of destructive wildfires in Northern California over the past three years.
