A Michigan driver reached speeds of nearly 120 mph and cut through a corn field during a police chase that ended when he crashed into a water-filled drainage ditch and jumped into a pond, officials said.

A Detroit man was found guilty of two murder charges and a total of 11 felonies after police discovered the body of a 35-year-old man in the ditch next to a Lapeer County road in 2019, according to authorities.

A 50-year-old man was struck by a car and killed over the weekend while trying to cross a street in Lapeer County, officials said.

A man and his two dogs were struck and killed Tuesday by a hit-and-run driver while they were walking on the shoulder of a roadway in Lapeer Township, according to police. Officials said they took a woman into custody a short time later.

LAPEER COUNTY, Mich. Deputies responded to Bowmans Outdoors in Lapeer County in the early mornings of Friday in response to a break in alarm. When deputies arrived they discovered the building had been broken into and more than two dozen firearms had been stolen. Investigators reviewed security footage and determined the suspects are three Black men. The suspects fled the scene in a light colored Chevrolet Cruze. Burglary tools and clothing seen in the security footage was also recovered.

ELBA TOWNSHIP, Mich. A 4-year-old boy died Wednesday after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool on Monday in Lapeer County. Officials say at around 9:28 a.m. on Monday the boy was found unresponsive within a pool at a residence on Hadley Road. Officials say the boy exited the home and unlocked a gate that accessed the swimming pool. Friends of the family discovered the boy and removed him from the pool and conducted CPR. The Lapeer County Sheriffs Office says the initial investigation supports that the incident was a tragic accident.

Deputies with the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office received a call at 1:47 a.m. Wednesday that a woman with two children was drunk at a gas station in Capac. The car was found off the roadway at 2:02 a.m. Wednesday in a ditch on the northeast side of M-53 and Bowers Road, officials said. Lapeer County Sheriff's Office deputies are continuing to investigate the case and will present evidence to the Lapeer County Prosecutor's Office regarding charges.

(Lapeer County Sheriff's Office)COLUMBIAVILLE, Mich. - A Lapeer County deputy rescued a driver from a burning pickup truck after excessive speed led to a head-on crash into a tree, officials said. Deputies were sent to the crash at 8:15 p.m. Sunday on Mount Morris Road west of Caitlin Road in Columbiaville. A witness told police a pickup truck went off the road, crashed into a tree and overturned. Don Brady got to the scene within two minutes of the crash and found the 56-year-old Mount Morris man trapped in the pickup truck, officials said.

The crash was witnessed by people and captured on video. LAPEER COUNTY, Mich. - The Lapeer County Sheriff's Office is investigating a plane crash that happened Wednesday afternoon at Lake Pleasant in Attica near Bowers and Lake Pleasant roads. Police said the pilot of a yellow two seat Super Cub was performing a landing on Lake Pleasant when the nose pitched downward into the water. The plane was occupied only by the licensed pilot, a 74-year-old man from Lapeer. The pilot has been known to fly around the area and perform water landings on the larger lakes for years.
