The remains were returned to the National Lakeshore in February 2019 and then sent to Western Michigan University. Road Commission Chair Bob Joyce told Eckerle that he couldn’t say that, to which Eckerle responded: “I can say anything I want. Black Lives Matter has everything to do with taking the country away from us.”Joyce later rebuked Eckerle a second time. “There’s just no room for that kind of language here,” Joyce told the Leelanau newspaper. "This type of racial slur is flat-out unacceptable and ignorant.

Good Harbor Bay beach is at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Leelanau County. Botulism has been linked to more than 80,000 bird deaths around the Great Lakes since 1999.

Staff there evaluated the eagle, determinedA 2-year-old female eagle was shot by waterfowl hunters Saturday in Northern Michigan. The two guides said that they saw the eagle flying, heard a gunshot and then saw the eagle fall from the sky. The guides reported seeing the two men who shot the eagle, about 100 yards away, picking up decoys from the ground. One of the sheriff's deputies provided a dog crate to transport the eagle to Wings of Wonder.
