Futures for the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite are all up 0.4%. The positive momentum comes on the back of better-than-expected corporate earnings. The U.S. earnings calendar is packed on Tuesday, including Coca-Cola and Lockheed Martin, which reported before the open. However, stock gains might be limited ahead of Friday's second-quarter US GDP report, as investors wait and see how the American economy performed last quarter.

"It's a good operation with an excellent workforce," Hewson said in a statement. "We look forward to working with the government and PA Congressional delegation to find more work for this facility." The Philadelphia Inquirer reported last month that Lockheed planned to shut down the plant by the end of the year, affecting around 465 employees. It is unclear if the Coatesville plant will construct any of the components for the new presidential helicopters.
