Here's how the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit is honoring lives lost to gun violence.

It was a big night for the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, better known as MOCAD, as Friday was the annual gala and art auction.

DETROIT – A new exhibit at Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit is celebrating the work of Black artists through books. “I love Black art. I love art books and my background is in art education,” said Asmaa Walton. “A large part of exhibit is inviting people to appreciate Black art.”Walton called the collection Black Art Library. The Black Art Library runs until April 18 at MOCAD with strict social distancing guidelines in place.

DETROIT The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) fired executive director Elysia Borowy-Reeder this week, MOCAD announced Wednesday. With this action, the Board of Directors seeks to reaffirm its commitment to diversity and inclusivity within the institution and the community, a representative for the organization said. The Board of Directors is committed to implementing concrete actions and initiatives to deliver on its mission of being an equitable arts institution that reflects the values of the community. During this time our Executive Director is on leave-of-absence from MOCAD. Suggestions that have been made for changes in how we operate will be carefully considered as part of that plan.
