A Waterford Township man died in a suspected drowning in Maceday Lake on Monday night, officials said.

State officials have eliminated poisoning as the cause of death of some mute swans at a small suburban Detroit lake and put the blame on a disease caused by a parasite.

PETA is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction on cruelty charges of the person(s) responsible for killing nearly 20 swans since January around Maceday Lake.

The burnt remains of a female were found near a park on July 13 and identified as belonging to Susie Zhao from Waterford Township. A citizen discovered the “badly burned” remains of a female body around 8 a.m. on July 13 near the Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area at Maceday Lake and Cross roads, officials said. Police identified the body as Zhao one week after she was found. White Lake police say a citizen located the remains of the victim around 8 a.m. in a parking area near the Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area at Maceday Lake and Cross roads. Officials say Oakland County medical examiners arrived on the scene but no cause of death has been determined as of Tuesday afternoon. Officials say there were no recent missing persons reports in the area that matched the victims description.
