The Metropolitan Police force said โno further action will be takenโ over allegations Bashir used illegal subterfuge to get the interview. Charles Spencer, has alleged that Bashir used false documents, including fake bank statements, and other dishonest tactics to convince Diana to agree to the interview.

The BBC carried out an internal investigation when the complaints first surfaced and has said Bashir admitted commissioning mocked-up documents.
