(AP Photo/Shiho Fukada, File)NEW YORK โ Bob Avian, a Tony Award-winning choreographer who had a role in some of the most beloved and influential shows on Broadway, including โDreamgirls,โ โA Chorus Line,โ โFolliesโ and โMiss Saigon,โ has died. Avian earned six Tony nominations and won twice, for choreographing โBallroomโ and co-choreographing โA Chorus Line.โ He won an Oliver Award for choreographing Boublil and Schonberg's musical โMartin Guerreโ in London. Avian's association with โA Chorus Lineโ continued when he directed the 2006 revival on Broadway and the London revival at the Palladium in 2013.

Read full article: On this day: August 62012: Composer, conductor and pianist Marvin Hamlisch dies at age 68 in Los Angeles, California, following a short illness, primarily due to respiratory arrest caused by a combination of anoxic brain encephalopathy and hypertension. Hamlisch was one of only 11 EGOTs -- those who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. He was also one of only two people to have won those four prizes and a Pulitzer Prize (the other being Richard Rodgers). Hamlisch also won two Golden Globes. He composed the score for the 1975 Broadway musical "A Chorus Line" and some of the movies he scored include "The Sting," "The Way We Were," "The Spy Who Loved Me," "Ordinary People" and "Sophie's Choice."
