The Michigan company Pleasantrees is known for its cannabis products, but theyโ€™re also working to make the marijuana industry more equitable for everyone. โ€œSocial equity has basically become a term of art in the cannabis industry,โ€ said Jerome Crawford with Pleasantrees. The Michigan company is hiring more minorities like Crawford, an attorney who now oversees legal operations and social equity for Pleasantrees. The council voted on Dec. 8 not to pay city bills until the city paid a legal firm that was hired by the council in May. Warren City Attorney Ethan Vinson argues that the city council โ€œexceeded the scopeโ€ of its authority when securing an attorney from Plunkett Cooney on May 12. The City Council is litigating the tax rates, city budget issues, and other matters in this lawsuit. The city council is committed to paying all city vendors and contractors as this is our legal obligation.

WARREN, Mich. โ€“ The Warren City Council voted 5-2 on Tuesday rejecting a proposed settlement that would grant 28 licenses for medical marijuana provisional centers. Lafferty did not hold back on why he wanted to council to vote down a settlement of the lawsuit. Today the Detroit City Council voted to unanimously approve an adult-use recreational marijuana ordinance also known as Chapter 20 of the 2019 Detroit City Code, which allows adult-use marijuana licensing in Detroit. Passage of this ordinance by the full body of the Detroit City Council allows licensing for the following state approved categories: adult-use retailer establishment, grower, processor, safety compliance facility, temporary marihuana event, microbusiness, designated consumption lounge and secure transporter. The ordinance allows current medical marijuana licensees an opportunity at obtaining adult use licenses but works steadfastly to create an avenue of participation for residents of the city where this new industry will be located.

Residents in New Jersey, Arizona, Montana and South Dakota all voted to legalize recreational cannabis, and South Dakota also legalized medical marijuana, along with Mississippi. South Dakota became the first state to legalize medical and recreational marijuana in the same election. For the first time in U.S. history, the state of Oregon decriminalized possession of hard drugs, as well as voted to legalize psychedelic mushrooms.

DETROIT โ€“ Several marijuana vape cartridges that were sold in Detroit have been recalled after failing safety compliance testing for Vitamin E Acetate. The cartridges were manufactured before the Emergency Rules for marijuana products intended for inhalation were filed on Nov. 22, 2019. Affected vape cartridges will have a label that indicates the license number of the marijuana facility that sold the marijuana product. The recall affects marijuana products sold from Plan B Wellness on 8 Mile Road in Detroit. Patients and caregivers are requested to report any adverse product reactions to the MRA via email: MRA-Enforcement@michigan.gov or via phone: 517-284-8599.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. On Monday, Ann Arbors latest cannabis provisioning center, Liberty Ann Arbor, will be holding its grand opening. The business will also be launching its Kick COVID to the Curb program, which is intended to help local restaurants around the provisioning center. Managed by Holistic Industries, the company intends to hold Liberty Cannabis Cares town halls and educational programs as well as offer a rewards program. To keep customers safe, Liberty Ann Arbor will limit in-store customers to four or five at a time and require masks and social distancing. Liberty Ann Arbor will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

PONTIAC, Mich. - Due to a moratorium approved by the Pontiac City Council on the acceptance of Medical Marijuana applications until Nov. 6, the 21-day application period will begin on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. and end on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. The City of Pontiac voters approved a Medical Marijuana ballot proposal in August 2018. The City of Pontiac Medical Marijuana Ordinance (Ordinance #2357 B) directs the clerk to assess, evaluate, score and rank all applications in order to receive a permit to operate a provisioning center submitted during the 21-day application period in November. Five permits will be awarded in each of the four medical marijuana overlay districts for a total of 20. In addition, the city council adopted the Provisioning Center Community Benefits Agreement Ordinance to ensure that Pontiac residents benefit from the industry.
