Van Buren police were unable to make much progress with the case and Michigan State Police took over. Defense attorneys argued while police can place a truck and cell phones tied to the men at Covingtonโs home, there is no evidence that the men shot and killed her.

In the interview, Shane Evans explains why they came to Covingtonโs house in the first place. He told police that he told the other men that he knew who lived there and that nobody was home. I knew he was out of his house,โ Evans said. They went to the wrong door.โEvansโ indicated that the men entered Egypt Covingtonโs unit.
