Because of a noticeable reduction in unwanted dog pregnancies, there was already a decline in dogs coming into the shelters. The Michigan Humane Society currently has a zero euthanasia rate for adoptable pets.

These dogs come from animal shelters across Louisiana and have come to Michigan to help create space in these shelters as they work to support animals displaced by Hurricane Laura. We’ve seen people from across the country come together with the goal of helping those affected,” said Michigan Humane president and CEO Matt Pepper. Elise Ramsey, an investigator with the Michigan Humane Society, said she’ll go anywhere to stop animal cruelty. A recent case in Garden City was incredibly disturbing, she said. Ramsey answered the ad and began an undercover text exchange with the poster, exposing sickening and exhausting evidence, she said. The Humane Society will stop taking applications on Sunday at 8 p.m. After that, the team will start reviewing the applications to find homes for the animals. DETROIT Chihuahuas who were at overcrowded and underfunded shelters in California will now be searching for new homes in Michigan after a flight across the country. The Michigan Humane Society, Michigan Animal Rescue League and Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit teamed up with Compassion Without Borders and Wings of Rescue to transport 100 dogs from the Fresno, California, area to Michigan. DETROIT The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) and several partners took possession of approximately 100 chihuahuas Thursday evening which were transported to Michigan from over-crowded animal shelters in California. The transport is part of a network of similar events across the country led by Compassion Without Borders. The group moves dogs from shelters in California into communities that eagerly want to give them forever homes. MHS, Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit, Mid-West Small Breed Rescue and the Michigan Animal Rescue League will put up a share of the dogs for adoption according to their organizational policies and procedures. If you are interested in adopting any of the dogs you are asked to contact each individual shelter to learn when they will be available.

For new pets, training really teaches the pet the rules of the home to make for a smoother transition.
