The drug has been linked to several overdoses in the Upper Peninsula and one overdose-related death in Van Buren County. Samples of the drug were sent to the Michigan State Police Laboratory for testing. They do not know if “purple heroin” is colored before or after arriving in Michigan. Since the beginning of the year, the Michigan Poison Center at WSU has received 420 calls related to marijuana exposure, 104 of them involving children under 18 years old. They can have pretty scary and profound dramatic presentations, said King, who divides his time between the Michigan Poison Center and the emergency department. The center also gets calls regarding adult exposure.
