STEUBEN, Mich. – A Wisconsin-based fighter pilot died after a plane crashed in a national forest in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula during a training mission, military officials said Thursday. The Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing announced the pilot’s death Thursday, but said the pilot’s identity will not be released until 24 hours after family members are notified. President Donald Trump says he plans to send federal agents to other cities as well. The Chicago Tribune, citing anonymous sources, reported Monday that Trump planned to deploy 150 federal agents to Chicago. WASHINGTON The U.S., Canada and Mexico have agreed to keep their shared borders closed to non-essential traffic until at least late August because of COVID-19. Officials had said in recent days that another 30-day extension was likely before the expiration of the previous 30-day extension. The partial closure restricts crossing to commercial traffic, people returning to their home country and other travel deemed essential. The extension agreed to by the three countries would keep the border closed until Aug. 21. The border restrictions are intended to maintain the commercial cargo traffic that is vital to the economies of all three countries.

The high court on Monday declined to hear an appeal involving construction of 145 miles (233 kilometers) of steel-bollard walls along the border in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. But a lower court dismissed the case. This is not the first time the Supreme Court has weighed in on border wall construction during the Trump administration. WASHINGTON President Donald Trump is taking immediate action to stop the violence and restore safety and security in cities across the country. He made the announcement during an address on the George Floyd protests Monday evening in Washington, DC. He says mayors and governors must establish an overwhelming law enforcement presence until the violence has stopped. The president is also taking swift action to defend Washington, DC after protests left historic monuments damaged. Those who threaten innocent life and property will be arrested, detained and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, said the president.

He was named last year by Barr to investigate the origins of the Russia investigation. Durham's investigation is one of multiple inquiries the department has undertaken in connection with the FBI's probe into potential coordination between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign. In the statement, released through the Justice Department, Durham said he disagreed with the inspector general about the investigation being properly predicated. The plan, which was delivered Sunday to members of Congress, drew harsh criticism Monday from Democrats. In a joint letter, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer, New Jersey Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. and Washington Sen. Patty Murray said the administration still does not have a serious plan for increasing testing to stop the spread of the virus.The report comes as the U.S. death toll from the pandemic is approaching 100,000. The HHS document, which The Washington Post first reported, recommends that all states have an objective of testing a minimum of 2 percent of their population in May and June.The Democratic lawmakers, who released the HHS report along with their joint letter, said it confirms that President Trumps national testing strategy is to deny the truth that there arent enough tests and supplies, reject responsibility and dump the burden onto the states.The Trump Administration still does not take any responsibility for ramping up our nations testing capacity, instead pushing the burden onto the states forcing states to compete with each other to procure vital supplies to administer tests from the private market, the lawmakers wrote. Critics argue that hypersonic weapons would add little to the United States ability to deter war. Trump occasionally mentions his interest in hypersonic weapons, sometimes without using the term. Defense Department officials presented President Donald Trump with the Space Force flag during a short Oval Office event on Friday. The Space Force, which was officially established in December, is the first new military service since the U.S. Air Force was established in 1947. The 16,000 airmen and civilians that make up the Space Force technically remain part of the Air Force, which previously oversaw offensive operations in space.

NEW YORK – The Navy’s Blue Angels and the Air Force’s Thunderbirds have been flying over cities around the country to show solidarity with workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The planes were supposed to fly over Michigan in April, but that has been postponed due to weather. It has been rescheduled for Tuesday. The flyover was scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances." The Navy’s Blue Angels and the Air Force’s Thunderbirds are flying over multiple cities throughout the U.S. in solidarity with frontline workers and first responders amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, officials said. “This is also our way of showing that we are all in this together and that America’s spirit will prevail.”The annual Thunder Over Michigan Airshow is scheduled to take place on August 29-30 in Ypsilanti. MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County will not receive F-35 planes that President Donald Trump said he was considering sending there. Wisconsin will receive the planes. Macomb County has been trying to get F-35s to the base for years. A campaign was launched in 2017, but the federal government decided to send the planes somewhere else. Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice S. Miller released a statement about the decision to not select Selfridge:“We are disappointed at the news that Selfridge Air National Guard Base was not selected as an F-35 base.

– The government must release some documents that will shed light on two grand juries that sat in Boston nearly 50 years ago to investigate the leak of the Pentagon Papers, a federal judge ruled Tuesday. U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs said in her written decision that she would grant a “limited disclosure” of the grand jury materials but not allow the “unfettered” access Lepore sought. If the government objects to the release of other documents, it has 60 days to explain why they should stay under wraps, Burroughs said. Burroughs said she was allowing the documents to be released “reluctantly,” expressing concern it could have “unintended consequences" or open the door to the release of other secret grand jury documents in the future. Among those who supported their release was Daniel Ellsberg, the former government consultant who gave the papers to The New York Times, The Washington Post and other newspapers.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mich. – A Purple Heart medal that was found on the side of the road in Marine City will be returned to the family of a World War II veteran. William Upton served in the United States Army Air Forces during WWII. The Purple Heart, other medals, ribbons and military memorabilia were discovered in a box. Upton’s family was found when the medal was posted on Facebook by the St. Clair County Department of Veterans Affairs. His family will be picking up the items.

Just a heads up: The U.S. Army is not sending out text messages to tell people they’ve been chosen for a military draft, officials from Recruiting Command said Wednesday. Even if there were a draft, it’s not a decision made by U.S. Army Recruiting Command. The Selective Service System, a separate agency outside of the Department of Defense, is the organization that manages registration for the Selective Service, officials said. The Selective Service System is conducting business as usual. Registering for the Selective Service does not enlist you into the military.
