A vehicle crash causes traffic to be backed up Monday night in a construction zone on southbound Interstate 75 at Nine Mile Road. Officials said the minivan lost control and was wedged between the construction walls, blocking the two southbound lanes. A 27-year-old man, of Taylor, was shot and rushed to a hospital, where he was in critical condition. The suspected gunman, a 21-year-old Oak Park man, was taken into police custody. An accomplice, a 21-year-old Detroit man, also was taken into custody at 8 Mile and Greenfield roads.

One Metro Detroit store decided to put safety first and the response from customers has been more than they ever imagined. Local businesses have had to make some tough decisions over the last few months, but one Ferndale store made the choice to close and customers are rewarding them for it. Emily and John Murray opened Modern Natural Baby on Nine Mile Road in 2009 after having a baby of their own. Their store was able to survive thanks to the loyal customers who shopped online and through social media. John Murray said they’ve been getting orders from customers that don’t have children or grandchildren because they want to support the store.

Normally, Nine Mile Road would be flooded with people going from bar to bar and fighting for parking spots. With the current three-week restriction on bars and restaurants, things were low key. “It doesn’t feel like the day before Thanksgiving,” said Brandon Leclerc of Sterling Heights. ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Martin Dwayne Smith, a 51-year-old man from Harper Woods, was arraigned Friday afternoon in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on I-94 Monday. Zachery Morisette, a 26-year-old Macomb County Department of Roads employee, was struck and killed while replacing a manhole cover on I-94 near Nine Mile Road in Macomb County. Smith was charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, resulting in death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident, resulting in serious impairment or death. FERNDALE, Mich. Residents in Ferndale are fed up with the long wait times for trains at Nine Mile and Hilton roads. Some residents said a CN train can block Nine Mile Road for 20 to 40 minutes. The work has reduced the yards capacity, leading to abnormal train movements at Nine Mile and Hilton roads, CN officials said. That means when the train is blocking Nine Mile Road, the rear is still being loaded back at the yard, officials said. Even though that loading is a few blocks away, it traps drivers on Nine Mile Road.
