Hundreds gather in person, online to give their two cents in battle to reopen Downtown Northville
During COVID, the city of Northville decided to close its downtown to cars in an attempt to give its businesses a fighting chance, especially when Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer mandated that outdoor dining was acceptable and people were masked.
Laughter mixed with magic coming to Northville
If youโre looking for a night out this weekend filled with laughter and magical surprises, Genittiโs Hole-In-The-Wall in Northville is the place to be. Entertainer, magician, comedian, and friend of โLive in the D,โ Jasen Magic stopped by the show to speak with Jason Carr, and of course he brought the jokes and surprises. The public will have the chance to experience Jasenโs unique comedy show along with a family-style Italian dinner. The dinner and show take place Saturday November 19 at 6:30pm. Genittiโs Hole-In-The-Wall restaurant is located in Downtown Northville.

From babbling brooks, to a bustling downtown, the city of Northville has a certain charm and uniqueness. The city is also the setting of a growing trend. โWe were one of the first communities to apply for the social district license, and now there are over 96 communities that have a social district,โ Lori Ward, Executive Director of Northvilleโs Downtown Development Authority told Live in the Dโs April Morton. Ward says the social district, called The Twist, allows visitors to walk around a closed-off pedestrian-only area in downtown Northville with alcoholic drinks. There are 18 restaurants within the Social District, and Ward says that number is growing. Visitors to Downtown Northville can also enjoy shopping from unique, one-of-a-kind stores including clothing and home dรฉcor. Westland police seek missing girl, 17, last seen entering unknown vehicle
Westland police are looking for Auriana Thomas, 17, who was reportedly last seen leaving her Westland home at about 3:40 a.m. on Friday, March 5. WESTLAND, Mich. โ Police are seeking help from the public to locate a missing 17-year-old girl who was last seen early Friday morning. Westland police are looking for Auriana Thomas, 17, who was reportedly last seen leaving her Westland home at about 3:40 a.m. on Friday, March 5. Police say Thomas was picked up by a white SUV, which could have possible been an Uber or Lyft vehicle. There is evidence that suggests Thomas may be in the area of Six Mile and Newburgh roads in Livonia, or Six Mile and Haggerty roads in Northville Township.

Hundreds of victims identified in Metro Detroit mail theft bust
Two men are being accused of stealing mail from hundreds of Metro Detroit homes in an effort to defraud one or more banks. Justin Lohman and Justin Cutshaw are being charged with several federal criminal counts of identity theft, bank fraud stolen mail and aiding and abetting. A 13-page criminal complaint against the pair alleges that they knowingly possessed stolen mail and used personal identifying information contained within that stolen mail to execute an ongoing scheme to defraud one or more banks. At least four police departments are involved in the investigation, including departments from Grand Rapids, Livonia, Westland and West Bloomfield. Police also discovered 19 additional stolen mail victims from six different communities in evidence that the men left at a Grand Rapids hotel.
Dingell renews push to change drunk driving law 2 years after Abbas family tragedy
DETROIT โ Itโs been two years since a drunk driver took the lives of a Metro Detroit family. All five in the vehicle, Issam Abbas, 42, Rima Abbas, 38, Ali Abbas, 14, Isabella Abbas, 13, and Giselle Abbas, 7, died. โThe beautiful, young Abbas family was stolen from us by a drunk driver who never should have been behind the wheel of a car. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety released a study in July 2020 which found that more than 9,400 drunk driving deaths could be prevented each year when drunk driving prevention technology is made standard on every new car. Lyon Township family who lost home in plane crash receives overwhelming support from community
LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. โ The Lyon Township family who had its home destroyed in a plane crash Saturday has received almost $28,000 in donations through an online fundraiser. On Saturday, a plane carrying a family of three crashed into the Mudwzova family home. Former president of the Home Builders Association of Southeastern Michigan and president of Compo Home Builders, David Compo, his wife Michele and their son Dawson died in the Lyon Township plane crash. โDavid Compo was a respected husband, father, brother, colleague and friend to many. David Compo was an Adult Leader and attained the rank of Life Scout.

NORTHVILLE, Mich. โ It may not be your normal New Yearโs Eve celebration, but many are still ready to bring in 2021 in Downtown Northville -- whether outside in the cold or something a little more warmer. โWeโre just going to go home and have some dinner, just alone with our little puppy,โ said Carol Seneker. โWell we did a little shopping in Downtown Northville today and weโre going to go home and spend it with my wife and family and bring in the new year,โ said Sean Carlson. Northville parents, educators clash over in-person learning
NORTHVILLE, Mich. โ Northville Public Schools has worked with a hybrid school year with students learning in person. On Monday, the district met to discuss the future of in-person learning. โWhatever happens itโs not going to please everyone,โ said district superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher, who laid out a recommendation for the district. During public comment, several parents, who are also doctors and healthcare workers, pushed hard for in-person learning. Northville High School complies with new precautions, switches to remote learning
NORTHVILLE, Mich. โ Officials with Northville Public Schools announced Northville High School would switch to remote learning Wednesday in compliance with the new precautions put in place due to COVID-19. In a letter to parents, the district said Northville High School will switch to full virtual instruction Wednesday and all sports and clubs that include in-person gatherings are suspended during this time. Michigan suburb builds heated areas for businesses in winter
NORTHVILLE, Mich. โ A Detroit suburb has partnered with a business owner to build heated stands and pods to help restaurants and shops get through the winter amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Northville Downtown Development Authority and Manfred Schon, owner of data company Up2Go, has unveiled its โHeat in the Streetโ experience, MLive.com reported. Schon, who is from Germany, said he wanted to help Northville businesses during winter months with outdoor dining and shopping like he had back home. Restaurants will use food stands to serve their dishes, and customers will use the heated dining pods. The stands and pods will be in addition to outdoor areas many downtown restaurants are already planning outside of their businesses for the winter, Ward said.
