ROSEVILLE, Mich. – The Roseville Police Department announced a plan to reach out to people struggling with addiction and get them on the road to recovery. Police said they’re seeing so many overdoses in Roseville homes, from heroin, pills and other drugs that families are stocking Narcan in the home themselves. Instead of arresting, they offer up recovery teams from the group “Families Against Narcotics.” The group is led by retired Clinton Township judge Linda Davis. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) launched an online portal where organizations can request free naloxone, a medication that reverses opioid overdoses and saves lives. A recent study found that only 25 percent of people using opioids in southeast Michigan had access to naloxone. PAW PAW, Mich. – Michigan State Police seized three kilograms of fentanyl during a traffic stop on I-94 in Southwest Michigan. Michigan State Police made the stop in Van Buren County after troopers spotted “several indicators of criminal activity,” eventually searching the vehicle and finding the hidden drugs, WOOD TV reports. “The amount of fentanyl involved in this case is alarming and not typical of what we see day to day,” Capt. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent. Like morphine, it is a medicine that is typically used to treat patients with severe pain, especially after surgery.
