He took second place in the first heat of five runners, finishing with a time of 45.44 seconds to reach the semifinals the following day, where he finished last in his heat and 23rd overall. Pistorius also competed as part of South Africa's 4x400 meters relay team, which eventually finished eighth out of a field of nine in the final for the event.
