An Ozone Action Day has been declared in Southeast Michigan today with temperatures rising to dangerous levels.

DETROIT - First of all, an Ozone Action Day means it's going to be hot and muggy. An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. In this region, the Southesast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) declares an Ozone Action Day when the weather is like this. Ozone Action days are called when hot summer temperatures are expected to combine with pollution to create high amounts of ground-level ozone. In 2018, there were nine Ozone Action days, according to SEMCOG.

DETROIT - Metro Detroit is under an Air Quality Alert which means we have an Ozone Action Day. Its still a little slippery on the streets from all of that rain last night and overnight, so be careful. Conditions are drying out a little bit with nothing more than a few scattered showers this morning. Scattered rain and thundershowers will mainly be near the Ohio Border and south through the afternoon, but we should see a few storms popping with the heat of the day. Highs in the upper 80s to low 90 feeling even warmer and expect a wetter afternoon with more scattered rain and thunderstorms.
