A murder suspect on the run leads police on a chase throughout the city’s east side, detouring to the Greektown Casino parking garage.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A University of Michigan employee was knocked unconscious in a parking structure over the weekend and woke up to find his car on fire, police said. The Michigan Medicine staff member said he was assaulted around 7:50 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 6) on the fifth floor of the P1 parking garage on West Medical Center Drive in Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor firefighters arrived and put out the fire. AdU of M police and Ann Arbor firefighters are investigating the incident. Parts of the parking structure are closed for safety inspections, officials said.

DETROIT – Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) has proposed a seven-story parking garage for its location in Detroit -- which is raising some concerns for residents in the area. HFHS in Detroit currently has a parking lot with about 300 spots for its employees and patients. While the current parking lot may not be big enough, the significantly-larger proposed parking garage may pose some issues for its Detroit neighbors. HFHS’s proposed parking garage would accommodate approximately 2,000 vehicles -- a solution to a parking problem that was addressed in a community outreach meeting. Residents said that a parking garage is needed, but the proposed plan could decrease their property values and increase their taxes.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. On Monday, June 8, public parking facilities will resume normal operations according to the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority. Staff are anticipated to return on Monday and modifications have been made to facilities, including social distancing reminders and plexiglass at payment centers. From March 18 to June 7, the DDA did not collect parking fees at public parking garages and non-metered spaces. Parking attendants were not on-site so as to reduce contact between drivers and staff. According to the DDA website, 150 on-street metered parking spaces will be available for free short-term parking for curbside pickup from Ann Arbor restaurants and retail shops.
