A 35-year-old driver was killed when his SUV drifted off the road and crashed into a tree in Oakland County, officials said.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The City of Ann Arbor wants to know how you would improve getting around Lower Town. Community members are being asked to share their thoughts and pre-pandemic experiences as drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and transit users in the Lower Town area, located just north of Broadway Bridge. Currently in the idea generation phase of a mobility study, the city is asking residents to fill out and share a survey to help see how growth has impacted community members who drive, ride, cycle and walk through the area. OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. Several Oakland County residents were left without a home due to fires started by lightning strikes Saturday night and Sunday morning. Firefighters in Commerce Township and Walled Lake battled a two-alarm fire at condominiums on Addington Drive near Pontiac Trail, around 9 p.m. The American Red Cross helped several tenants of a Rochester Hills apartment on Galloway Court, near Butler Road Sunday. Fire crews reported they were called at about 5:30 a.m. No injuries were reported. Just hours later, firefighters battled a heavy fire at a home in Bloomfield Township, near Wing Lake Road.

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – The South Lyon Police Department sent out an alert that there’s a “major water main break” in the city. The water main break is in the area of Pontiac Trail and Dorothy Street, police said. Residents in the areas of Dorothy Street, Princeton Drive, University Avenue and Harvard Road are affected, according to authorities. It’s unclear how long it will take crews to fix or replace the broken water main. No additional information was provided.

LYON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Pontiac Trail west of New Hudson Airport is closed due to a broken electrical pole, the Lyon Township Fire Department announced Monday afternoon. As of now it is unknown when the area will open back up to traffic. Stay with ClickOnDetroit for traffic updates.

NOVI, Mich. – A fugitive wanted for a series of crimes around Michigan was found hiding in Novi after he escaped being trapped by ramming into detectives’ cars at an Oakland County gas station, officials said. A black Ford Contour believed to belong to the man was seen turning into the Shell gas station at 20777 Pontiac Trail in Lyon Township, detectives said. The driver got out and walked into the gas station store, police said. He fled the scene west on West Eight Mile Road, and deputies terminated the pursuit because of poor road conditions, police said. It was found inside the Novi Meadows Mobile Home Community in the 500 block of Eckschtay Street, authorities said.

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – Crews were battling a fire at a restaurant in Lyon Township on Tuesday morning. The Lyon Township Fire Department says they’re assisting, along with the South Lyon Fire Department, on a structure fire at Lyon Cantina, a Mexican restaurant on Pontiac Trail and 9 Mile Road. “First arriving units reported flames through the roof. Units were making an interior attack, however conditions worsened and crews were pulled from the building.”Oakland County Sheriff’s office tell Local 4 that flames were spotted on the roof. Video from the scene shows smoke billowing from the roof.

DETROIT - Surveillance video captured footage of a speeding car damaging storefronts, street signs, trees and light poles in Wixom Saturday morning. Police said the crash happened on Pontiac Trail near Old Wixom Road. Authorities say no one including the driver was seriously hurt. Officers believe speeding was a contributing factor in the crash.
