Bensons office mailed about 740,000 absentee ballot applications to Michigan voters ahead of the May elections. Now the office is ensuring that absentee ballot applications are mailed to all 7.7 million registered voters in Michigan. Officials say that more than one million absentee ballots have been issued to Michigan voters as of Thursday. Trump falsely accused Benson of illegally sending absentee ballots to all Michigan residents ahead of this years elections.

Under state law, the Secretary of State is required to issue a list of individuals “generally advocated by the national news media to be potential presidential candidates” for the Republican and Democratic parties for the presidential primary election. The Michigan presidential primary will be March 10, 2020. In addition to the presidential primary, residents in some communities also may be voting on local ballot proposals or for special elections to fill vacancies.
