It was a part of a group to discuss the American Rescue Plan, a nearly $2 trillion economic stimulus plan, and what is needed to help get the economy roaring again. The American Rescue Plan includes $20 billion for vaccinations and $50 billion dedicated for testing and reopening schools. “They’re worried as the landlord tenant courts open up they may be facing eviction and have no place else to go,” Duggan said. The hope in Washington is to have the bill passed and the money rolling by March.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday rejected congressional subpoenas issued for him and for the State Department to provide information and testimony to lawmakers about two politically charged developments. The refusals set the stage for an escalation in the confrontation between the State Department and the Democratic-controlled House ahead of November’s elections. In letters sent to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Pompeo and the State Department's acting legislative affairs chief said they had no intention of complying with the subpoenas. Engel had issued the subpoenas on July 31 and Aug. 3, complaining that Pompeo and the State Department were "stonewalling" repeated requests for information on both matters. This is not the first time Pompeo has rebuffed a House subpoena.

WASHINGTON – U.S. President Donald Trump will hold a news briefing at the White House at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. It is believed that Trump will address the country’s coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Wednesday’s conference, but the White House has not confirmed the topic of the briefing. Wednesday’s briefing comes one day after Trump led his first White House coronavirus task force news briefing since April on Tuesday. The U.S. is currently seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases from coast to coast. COVID-19 cases in the U.S. have been increasing by about 400,000 new cases each week since June 29.
