YPSILANTI, Mich. – Eastern Michigan University announced it will be renaming its engineering and technology college in recognition of alumni group GameAbove, which has donated a total of $20 million toward student- and faculty-based initiatives over the past 15 months. ANN ARBOR – The fourth year of the Ann Arbor Community Academy will kick off on March 10, and the program is currently seeking community members interested in participating. Formerly named the Ann Arbor Citizens Academy, the free program offers community members 18 years old or older a broad view of local government. Due to Ann Arbor Public Schools spring break, the academy will not meet on March 31. Graduates from the program have gone onto serve on City Council, the Public Art Commission, the Planning Commission, Water System Advisory Board and more. According to the city of Ann Arbor, preference will be given to city residents over nonresidents depending on program capacity.

DETROIT – The Detroit Free Press and Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers have teamed up for a program that helps to feed health care workers and local food banks. For the last month, Detroit Free Press has raised money to pay restaurants like Folk Detroit, $20 per meal donated -- as part of their Top 10 Cares program. The Whitmer Administration plans to implement another liquor buyback program for restaurants and bars and partner with Michigan restaurants to allow SNAP benefits for prepared meals.

Businesses and labor unions had pressed the government to step in with more direct support for people in precarious work situations. Under a furloughed worker program that expires next month, the government pays 80% of the wages of workers placed on leave. To underscore that his proposals have wide support, Sunak appeared outside his office before delivering his speech, holding a copy of the plan and flanked by representatives of the Confederation of British Industry and the Trades Union Congress. We’ve already lost 700,000 jobs.”In addition to the wage support program, Sunak said the government will help businesses by extending loan repayment deadlines and loan guarantees provided earlier this year.
