The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced 73.5 million new gold and platinum program certifications for Eminem, making him the No. 1 awarded musician for singles in the program’s history.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and Legacy Recordings announced Wednesday that Houston's 1987 sophomore album, “Whitney," has reached diamond status, which is equivalent to selling 10 million albums. Others with three or more albums that have reached diamond status include The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Shania Twain and the Eagles.

DETROIT – It’s no doubt that music streaming has grown in popularity through the decade, but statistics from the Recording Industry Association of America show just how much things have changed. At that point, physical music was still popular. Physical music sales, such as CDs, accounted for 52 percent of the music market that year. Mid-year stats from 2019 showed that music streaming now accounts for 80 percent of how Americans listen to music. Physical music and digital downloads both dropped to only 9 percent.
