WARREN, Mich. โ Michael John Frederick Jr. is accused of firing shots into the home of a family of veterans, slashing their tires, smashing a window, vandalizing their truck with a swastika, expletives and the words โNot Welcome.โFrederick faced Judge Michael Chupa Thursday, where he said he wanted the Hall family to forgive him. I can say itโs not like me,โ Frederick said. โPeople should be able to reasonably disagree about politics without it resorting to violence. Using violence, whether motivated by race or politics or hatred or acrimony," Chupa said. Man confesses to crimes against Warren family in federal hate crime investigation
WARREN, Mich. โ A press conference was held Wednesday afternoon to release details into the arrest of a man in connection with a hate crime investigation in Warren. Teams were sent out to knock on every door south of 11 Mile Road and west of Hoover Road. Investigators believe it was their Black Lives Matter sign that set off a 24-year-old delivery truck driver who lives with his parents around the corner. Police said he confessed to crimes against the Hall family and against another home that had โPedophileโ spray painted on the garage door because they had a Joe Biden sign. Warren police stepped up their search for a man who terrorized a family with violent actions and messages of hate. Shon Smith knew someone threw a rock through the window of the Hall family home on Sept. 9. She became emotional when she learned the same man fired shots a the home Sept. 7 and Sept. 10. โIt brought tears to my eyes.โThe police, the FBI and the two veterans targeted in the attacks believe they were targeted for a Black Lives Matter sign they placed in their window.
Warren veterans spend weeks in hotel after home repeatedly attacked
WARREN, Mich. โ Police continue to investigate an apparent hate crime against a family in Warren. The family said they arenโt taking and chances and have temporarily moved out of their own home. They said theyโd rather be in their own beds, but have spent the last two weeks in a hotel after their home was targeted in multiple hate crimes. Warren police and the FBI are investigating, but the person has not been caught yet. The family said they feel terrorized and will likely feel that way until the culprit has been caught.

WARREN, Mich. โ Within two days, the Hall family had their tires slashed, swastikas drawn on their vehicles, shots fired at their home and their front window smashed. Warren police released video of a man outside the home holding a gun Friday and announced a $3,000 reward for information to help find who is responsible. The video captures a man wearing a mask and hood with a gun in hand stalking the familyโs home in Warren. Eddie Hall and Candace Sparks-Hall were not home at the time and were notified of the shooting by their neighbor. Police said the FBI has been called in to launch a federal hate crime investigation.

Macomb County veterans targeted in suspected hate crime
A Macomb County family and their home came under attack Wednesday night. The safety of the Hall family home in Warren was shattered at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Outside, the couple found the tires slashed on Hallโs work truck, on Sparks-Hallโs car, and on their sonโs car he received for graduating. SUTTONS BAY, Mich. โ A northern Michigan county official was heard using a racial slur prior to a public meeting to describe African Americans in Detroit whom he blamed for spreading the coronavirus in the state. Road Commission Chair Bob Joyce told Eckerle that he couldnโt say that, to which Eckerle responded: โI can say anything I want. Black Lives Matter has everything to do with taking the country away from us.โJoyce later rebuked Eckerle a second time. โThereโs just no room for that kind of language here,โ Joyce told the Leelanau newspaper. "This type of racial slur is flat-out unacceptable and ignorant.
Romeo Rock moves to new location at Romeo District Library
Washington Township workers moved the rock Thursday morning to its new home at the Romeo District Library on Van Dyke. The billboard of goodwill for greetings, birthday wishes and celebrations had been a welcoming beacon into Washington Township. In June, โBlack Lives Matterโ was painted on the rock, which started a volley of racial slurs and a back-and-forth struggle to control the message on the rock. While plans were being made to move the rock by late 2021, the contentious back-and-forth made the land owners uncomfortable. The library accepted Romeo Rock with open arms.

For years, the rock has been on a private piece of property in Washington Township, just to the south of Romeo. But during the weekend, โBlack Lives Matterโ was pained on the rock, replaced with โall lives matter,โ changed back to โBlack Lives Matterโ and then replaced with a racial slur, officials said. Now the rock has become a rallying place as regular citizens became civil rights warriors and sentries who guard the rock and the current message that Romeo will not tolerate racism. But the situation is complicated as the property is being torn up to make way for a new strip mall.
