Ragnhild Mowinckel of Norway has become the first skier to be disqualified for a forbidden type of wax on her skis.

Italian skier Federica Brignone won the women’s combined race on the opening day of the world championships after defending champion Mikaela Shiffrin skied out near the end of her slalom run.

Mikaela Shiffrin is hoping to put her poor start to the Beijing Olympics behind her as she prepares for her second race.
