JuJuan Parks, 28, is facing 16 charges in connection with the Nov. 20 shooting inside a home in the 20000 block of Wyoming Avenue, according to officials. Officer Rasheen McClain was killed and his partner, Phillippe Batoum-Bisse, was injured. Thursday will be the first time Parks appears in court after the shooting. Detroit Police Chief James Craig previously said Parks was on the department’s radar, but fell through the cracks.

A possible suspect was taken into custody, but no charges have been announced in the deadly shooting. Visitation services will take place Wednesday, Dec. 4 and Thursday, Dec. 5 from 3-8 p.m at the Fisher Funeral home in Redford Township. Chief James Craig said Thursday that the 28-year-old man waited at the bottom of basement stairs, fired two shots from an assault-type rifle and ran past the fallen officers. Other officers shot him in the arm outside the home. Craig said the gunman was "very target specific" and "knew what he planned to do." The shooting happened Wednesday evening as officers responded to a report of a man with a gun who was looking for an estranged girlfriend.
