Prosecutors laid out their case against the three men charged in the 2017 killing of Van Buren Township woman Egypt Covington. Shandon Groom from Sumpter Township was also charged. During a preliminary exam, those closest to Covington testified that she didn’t know the three men. Edwards said he placed Shane Evans with the two others, Moore and Groom, in Sumpter Township. The evidence tech from Sumpter said he couldn’t say what happened to the phone once he bagged it for evidence.

MILFORD, Mich. – A trailer purchased for a nonprofit in support of adults with special needs has been stolen. For two years, the group saved up more than $8,000 and bought the trailer last month for their firewood selling business. Tin Talbot’s family members lined up to wait for her release Tuesday morning, but not everyone is happy she’s out of prison. Talbot was released at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday after spending 20 months -- the minimum sentence from her conviction -- in prison. She was granted parole and released after exactly 20 months. MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Many local school districts are grappling with the risk versus reward of sending any students back to face-to-face learning for any portion of the remainder of 2020. That’s because the Romeo district, like many others across the state, is trying to figure out what to do next. The Romeo district pre-empted Gov. It pulled all of its students out of face-to-face learning for the next three weeks last Friday. The Fraser School District, which was moving full steam ahead to bring its students back to face-to-face learning on Nov. 30 is now pushing pause on the return of high school students.

DETROIT – Operation Warp Speed has the goal of getting a COVID-19 vaccine distributed throughout the United States. Once a vaccine receives emergency use authorization from the FDA, it will go from the makers to the arms of citizens. Part of the team working tirelessly behind the scenes is Marion Whicker from Warren. She is on loan to Washington D.C. as the Deputy Chief for Supply, Productions and Distribution to Operation Warp Speed. Between 8 and 9 million of those will be moved to administer sites around the country within 24 hours.

Gretchen Whitmer is still looking to the Republican-controlled legislature to help strengthen safety measures in response to rise in COVID-19 cases. Whitmer is requesting the Legislature to enact a state law that would require mask wearing -- however, it is unknown if one is coming. Currently, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have required face masks to be worn in public places under an emergency health order. Tai’raz’s family said the 6-year-old had a magnetic personality. It was Tai’raz’s aunt who sought to bring the happiness to this affair as she believed Tai’raz himself would have. Community activist Malik Shabazz of the New Marcus Garvey Movement decried the violence that took Tai’raz’s life. DETROIT – Police said a 43-year-old man driving a pickup at a high rate of speed disregarded a red light and collided with a Dodge Caravan that was carrying multiple passengers. A 17-year-old man was driving the Dodge Caravan southbound on the Southfield Freeway Service Drive with three passengers: A 46-year-old woman, 13-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl. All of the passengers in the Dodge Caravan were transported by medics to a local hospital. HARPER WOODS, Mich. – A Wayne County spokesperson said that a woman who died at the Harper Woods jail died of natural causes. The Wayne County Medical Examiner said Priscilla Slater died of cardiac dysrhythmia and the manner of her death was natural, involving no foul play. Harper Woods asked the Michigan State Police to launch an investigation. HARPER WOODS, Mich. – Investigation into the death of a woman who died while in Harper Woods police custody has led to the firing of a deputy chief and a patrol officer, city officials said. City officials said members of the police department tried to conceal and manipulate evidence in the in custody death investigation of Priscilla Slater. Deputy Chief John Vorgitch and patrol officer Michael Pineau have been fired, according to authorities. WHITE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Sources say a 33-year-old professional poker player was tortured before she was murdered. The night before Zhao’s remains were found, sources said Zhao met Morris at an area motel. White Lake Township police and an FBI task force tracked Morris and arrested him. After Zhao was restrained, sources said she was tortured and sexually assaulted with an object. DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers will be without setup man Buck Farmer for at least the next 10 days as he hits the injured list with a left groin strain. Farmer was placed on the 10-day IL Monday after pitching a scoreless eighth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday to help secure the weekend sweep. Of Farmer’s seven appearances so far this season, six have been scoreless innings in which he allowed a total of just two walks and one hit allowed. That came after the Tigers had a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals canceled and Farmer hadn’t pitched in seven days. Burrows allowed three hits, a walk, a hit by pitch and three earned runs in 2.1 innings of work without striking out a batter.

DETROIT – Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases are surging in parts of the country and many outbreaks are being tied to restaurants and bars. On Friday night, one of Detroit’s most popular nightlife spots blocked off streets to traffic to make way for more social distancing. Patti Kukula with Delmar Kitchen and Bar in Greektown said the new effort is part of the Greektown Business Partnership Network. “We’ve been really learning how to socially distance and how to make sure everyone is wearing masks when they’re inside,” Kukula said. The 27-year-old daughter of iconic rocker Bruce Springsteen stormed to victory in a scintillating jump-off, riding her 12-year-old bay mare RMF Zecilie.
