FARMINGTON, Mich. – The Farmington Public Schools Board of Education unanimously voted 6-0 on Tuesday to increase in-person learning and relax the 6-foot social distancing measure in order to increase in-person learning for students. The district will continue other mitigation practices such as mask wearing, hand washing, cleaning and sanitizing, air filtration and student partitions. The board also granted interim Superintendent Bobbie Goodrum to make decisions for the district on how to move forward. DETROIT An agreement to reopen schools was reached between the Detroit Public Schools Community District and the Detroit Federation of Teachers. For some of our families and students, this means face-to-face instruction and for others it is online learning.Schools are expected to reopen Sept. 8. DETROIT According to the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT), 91 percent of its membership approved a strike vote which would allow the union to call a strike in the event negotiations break down with the school district. The Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) offered in-person summer school and anticipated about 25 percent of its student population would opt for in-person instruction. As of right now, it does not appear there will be sufficient teachers to accommodate in-person instruction. Wednesdays vote doesnt mean a strike is imminent but that the union has authorized one if negotiations break down. Detroit is scheduled to return back to school Sept. 8.

NORTHVILLE, Mich. Northville Public Schools announced Thursday a plan to begin the 2020-21 school year entirely online in the fall due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, the district plans to transition students to in-person learning no later than the first week of October, officials said. The Virtual Start program will be executed at all elementary, middle and high schools in the district. All classes begin on Sept. 8 and the transition to in-person learning is slated to begin on Oct. 2. Middle school students will engage in core math, science, language and history classes in person and engage in elective courses online.

DETROIT Detroit Public Schools (DPS) are preparing to host in-person summer classes beginning Monday -- nearly four months after Michigan K-12 schools shut down due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. DPS Superintendent Nikoli Vitti told CNN that the school system has seen a desperate need for in-person learning. The district will offer both in-person and virtual learning courses, and families have the ability to decide which option they prefer. The district says in-person learning will require daily self-assessments for COVID-19 symptoms and temperature checks for both staff and students.
