Netflix once again dominates Golden Globe TV nominations

The streaming giant scooped up 20 small-screen nods โ nearly three times as many as its closest competitor, HBO, and beating the 17 TV nominations it got last year. Streaming newcomer HBO Max scored two nominations with โThe Flight Attendant,โ a best comedy TV berth and also earned โThe Big Bang Theoryโ veteran Kaley Cuoco her first Globe nod. Little-known Pop TV earned five nominations โ all for the Canadian comedy โSchittโs Creek,โ which swept the comedy Emmy Awards last year. AdโThe Greatโ now faces โThe Flight Attendant,โ โSchittโs Creek,โ โEmily in Parisโ and โTed Lassoโ for bragging rights to best comedy TV series.

Gothams give virtual start to Oscar season, 'Nomadland' wins
The film won best feature at the Gotham Awards on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. 'Glee' creators plan college fund for Naya Rivera's son
LOS ANGELES A college fund is being created for Naya Rivera's son by the creators of Glee, who remembered the performer as joyful and immensely talented. Naya was more than just an actor on our show she was our friend, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan said in a statement Tuesday. Riveras body was found Monday in Southern Californias Lake Piru, five days after she and Josey had gone out on a rented boat. Our hearts go out to her family, especially her mom, Yolanda, who was a big part of the Glee family, and her son Josey, the three producers said, referring to the 4-year-old as the beautiful son Naya loved most of all.Josey is Riveras son with her former husband, actor Ryan Dorsey. ... She was a joy to write for, a joy to direct and a joy to be around, they said.
Actress Naya Rivera, who rose to fame in 'Glee,' dies at 33
NEW YORK Naya Rivera, a singer and actress who played a gay cheerleader on the hit TV musical comedy Glee, was found dead Monday in a Southern California lake. What a force you were, wrote Glee co-star Jane Lynch on Twitter. She is survived by her parents, Yolanda and George; a younger brother, Mychal; a sister, Nickayla; and her 4-year-old son. Naya Rivera was a fierce talent with so much more to do and this is such a terrible tragedy. In the preface to her autobiography, Rivera wrote that motherhood had changed her life and given it perspective.
Larry Kramer, playwright and AIDS activist, dies at 84

Bill Goldstein, a writer who was working on a biography of Kramer, confirmed the news to The Associated Press. Kramer's husband, David Webster, told The New York Times that Kramer died of pneumonia on Wednesday. But for many years he was best known for his public fight to secure medical treatment, acceptance and civil rights for people with AIDS.

New 'American Crime Story' season to focus on Clinton impeachment
(CNN) - The next installment of FX's "American Crime Story" franchise, set to debut weeks before the next presidential election, will revisit a scandal that rocked politics. The cable network on Tuesday announced "Impeachment: American Crime Story," a new season of the anthology series that FX says will unravel the story behind the impeachment of former President Bill Clinton. Annaleigh Ashford has been cast as Jones, while Beanie Feldstein and "American Crime Story" vet Sarah Paulson will play Lewinsky and Tripp, respectively. Meryl Streep to star in Ryan Murphy's adaptation of 'The Prom'
NEW YORK - Ryan Murphy is adapting the Tony Award-nominated and LGBTQ-friendly musical "The Prom" for Netflix, with big names Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells set to star, Deadline reports. It is based on an original concept from Jack Viertel and a book by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin. According to the report, Streep and Corden will play Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman, playwrights bruising from their dud production about Eleanor Roosevelt.
