A severe thunderstorm warning was issued Sunday night for parts of Southeast Michigan.

MELVIN, Mich. – A 26-year-old Melvin man was killed in a crash that happened before 5:30 a.m. today. Police say the crash took place near Lapeer and Wales Center roads in Wales Township. The victim’s 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling eastbound on Lapeer when it went off the road into a ditch and rolled several times ending up on its wheels, police say. As a result the victim was ejected from the vehicle. The crash is still under investigation.

DETROIT – Initial test results from a Detroit property and Sanilac County property owned by a businessman who spawned a county-wide contamination investigation show no threats to public health. MORE: Discovery of substance on I-696 leads to multi-county contamination investigationThat substance was coming from the condemned Electro-Plating Services, so crews started checking other properties owned by that business’ owner, Gary Sayers. Officials said tests taken at Sayers’ Deckerville property and the Commonwealth Industry building in Detroit did not show hexavalent chromium. Silver, mercury and chromium were found in the soil at the Deckerville property, but the levels weren’t high enough to cause a public health issue. PFAS test results are expected next week.

Emergency Management has also requested a re-inspection of the property to ensure there is no hazardous material or other public health issues at the location. Emergency Management will continue to monitor this situation, and will provide updates as they become available.

The men named in the federal indictment include Paul Drinkwine, Justin Cooper, and John Williams. The indictment alleges that on Nov. 19, 2017 the defendants and others travelled from Flint to a residence in Sanilac County in order steal marijuana and marijuana proceeds. The indictment also alleges that the men covered their faces, put on gloves, and brandished firearms as they approached the home.

High humidity combined with near-record heat will lead to dangerous conditions if youre not prepared. If you dont have air conditioning, there are cooling centers set up throughout Metro Detroit where you can escape the heat. That brief break from oppressive humidity won't last long. Theyre more likely in the North Zone and might briefly drop into parts of the Metro Zone by late afternoon or evening.
