WESTLAND, Mich. – Two men reached behind the jewelry counter at the Westland Mall Sears and stole items Feb. 3, police said. They both reached behind the counter, got into the display cases and took items that they put into their pockets. He stands about 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs about 180-200 pounds. He is about 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs around 150-180 pounds. Anyone with information about the crime or the identity of the men is asked to contact police at 734-467-3250.

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. The next wave of store closures has begun for Kmart, with the owner announcing the closures of Metro Detroits last remaining stores. The company, which also owns Sears, announced plans to close an additional 96 stores across the nation. The megastores Waterford Township location, which was set to be the last Metro Detroit location to remain open, is among those being closed. Kmart announced its Warren location would close by the end of the year, too. Over the last 15 years, Sears and Kmart have closed more than 3,500 stores cutting approximately 250,000 jobs nationwide.

The parent company of Sears and Kmart, called Transform Co., said Wednesday that it has "faced a number of challenges returning our stores to sustainable levels of productivity. It plans to close five Kmarts and 21 Sears stores across the United States and Puerto Rico. It plans to "accelerate the expansion" of its smaller-formart stores, Sears Home & Life. Following the closures, Sears and Kmart will have about 400 remaining stores.

Two more Sears stores are closing in Michigan this fall. Sears parent company Transform Co is planning to close 26 Sears and Kmart stores in October, with liquidation sales starting on Aug. 15, AL.com reports.
