Tracking the chance for severe weather in Metro Detroit. As of 5 p.m., a few thunderstorms are starting to pop up in West Michigan around the Kalamazoo area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne County

Strong to severe thunderstorms are moving through southeast Michigan this afternoon, and with these a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for all of southeast Michigan until 8pm this evening.

Scattered strong-to-severe thunderstorms have developed south of a warm front this afternoon in Indiana and Ohio, and they’re headed our way. The key to those storms maintaining their severity as they move into Michigan will be how far north that warm front makes it because we will not see severe weather north of the front. Right now, I think the front will potentially cross the state line into Lenawee and southwest Monroe counties, so that’s where the best chance is for marginally severe wind gusts and marginally severe hail into the evening hours.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Lenawee County.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties until 10 p.m. ET.

With enough sunshine, temperatures soar well above average this afternoon.

DETROIT Southeastern Michigan is now under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Potential hazards include damaging wind gusts (up to 70 mph), tornadoes and large hail. The probability for damaging wind gusts, possibly approaching 70 mph, is a 45% chance within 25 miles of any location in southeastern Michigan. The counties under the watch are:

DETROIT - A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Genesee, Lapeer, Sanilac and St. Clair Counties from now to 11 p.m. We'll have a few showers before midnight, but the better chance of showers and storms will be Wednesday afternoon. Skies will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy with afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms. There is a Marginal Risk of strong to severe storms, especially in the afternoon and evening, with heavy downpours, frequent lightning and damaging wind and hail.
