Saturday is Senior Day at The Big House as the Michigan Wolverines will host the Illinois Fighting Illini in what was supposed to be a battle of ranked opponents.

It’s state championship week in Ann Arbor as the undefeated Michigan Wolverines will play host to the Michigan State Spartans Saturday under the lights at The Big House.

The Michigan Panthers used the No. 1 overall pick in the USFL draft to select former University of Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson.

ANN ARBOR – The Paul Bunyan Trophy is staying Ann Arbor. Thanks to a brilliant performance from quarterback Shea Patterson, who threw for 384 yards and four touchdowns, No. 15 Michigan earned a 44-10 rout of Michigan State in the annual game between the teams Saturday in Ann Arbor. Michigan is now 8-2 with games at Indiana and home against Ohio State left. Michigan State needs to win at Rutgers and home against Maryland to become bowl-eligible.

This theoretical four-game winning streak would put Michigan at 9-2 with solid wins over Iowa, Notre Dame and Michigan State.

Peoples-Jones dropped the first two passes thrown his direction. Collins dropped a pass on a crossing route that would have been a big play. But his receivers dropped the ball. The numbers are fine considering the inconsistency of the offense, but these receivers are supposed to be extraordinary. After their worst game as a unit, they've got half a season to live up to the hype.

Penn State sprinted out to a 21-0 lead, making the game look a lot like the Wisconsin blowout from earlier in the year. Michigan outplayed Penn State for the majority of the game. Michigan never fumbled against Penn State, turning the ball over just once on the intercepted screen pass. He had another massive game against Penn State, making six tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. HealthMichigan entered the Penn State game with its fewest injuries of the season and seemingly left without any major issues.

Only Ohio State has more sacks than Penn State this season, and the Nittany Lions rank No. Against Penn State, Michigan shouldn't waste any time doing so. Those pieces just haven't been properly arranged yet, and that's a hard feat to pull off against Penn State. It could happen this weekend at Penn State, but Michigan needs to do everything just right.

The Ohio State game will always be the most important game on the schedule, and Michigan also has Notre Dame and Michigan State as massive home games.

20 Michigan to rout Rutgers 52-0 on Saturday. The Wolverines (3-1, 1-1 Big Ten) enjoyed a confidence-boosting win following a humiliating loss at Wisconsin. The Scarlet Knights (1-3, 0-2) have not won a conference game since the 2017 season and have to improve a lot to end the drought this year. The Scarlet Knights were called for a false start twice before punting late in the third. Ash has not led the Scarlet Knights to a Big Ten victory since beating Maryland on Nov. 4, 2017.

If Michigan could pick any team to come to the Big House this weekend, it would be Rutgers. Michigan needs to improve in several facets of the game, and the early stages of those improvements need to be obvious Saturday. The Rutgers game is the best chance to get someone in a rhythm. A Michigan team with something to prove would beat Rutgers by about 50 points.

Throughout the offseason, the Army game was billed as a dangerous early test for Michigan, and it's easy to see why. Sure, Michigan beat Middle Tennessee State pretty handily, outgained the Blue Raiders by 150 yards and was never in danger of losing the game. Patterson was 17 of 29 for 203 yards with TD passes to Tarik Black, Nico Collins and Sean McKeon. McCaffrey completed both of his passes for 17 yards and ran for 42 yards along with a score.
