A reputed drug dealer accused of raping a woman police informant sent into his house in an unmonitored sting has skipped bail and was a no-show at what was supposed to the start of his trial.

The family of a Kansas woman charged with joining the Islamic State group and leading an all-female battalion has told prosecutors they want nothing to do with her.

AdThere was no indication when that court will rule, but a hold could delay Chauvin’s trial for weeks. Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death. For third-degree murder, they must prove that Chauvin's actions caused Floyd's death, and that his actions were reckless and without regard for human life. Floyd’s death sparked sometimes violent protests in Minneapolis and beyond, and led to a nationwide reckoning on race.

As the trial approaches for Chauvin, charged with murder in George Floyd's death, prosecutors are putting the time Chauvin's knee was on Floyd's neck at about nine minutes. A three-judge panel said Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill erred last fall when he rejected a prosecution motion to reinstate the third-degree murder charge against Derek Chauvin. A reinstated third-degree murder count could increase the prosecution’s odds of getting a murder conviction. "We believe the charge of 3rd-degree murder, in addition to manslaughter and felony murder, reflects the gravity of the allegations against Mr. Chauvin. Prosecutors want to add charges of aiding and abetting third-degree murder against them, but that question will be resolved later.

The fact that the figure has evolved probably won't matter at Chauvin’s trial, which begins Monday with jury selection. He had been handcuffed and was pleading that he couldn't breathe, but Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd's neck even after he stopped moving and speaking. The narrative in the initial complaint filed May 29 by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office says Chauvin held his knee to Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes, 46 seconds. This means Chauvin had his knee on Floyd’s neck for at least nine minutes flat, but possibly for as long as 9 minutes, 31 seconds.

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich, – Police are investigating after shots were fired near two Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies early Tuesday morning. According to the sheriff’s office, at about 12:25 a.m. two deputies were parked and talking in a parking lot in the area of Gratiot and Cass avenues when they both heard a gunshot in the area. Officials say a second gunshot followed and seemed to cross their vehicles. Officials say it is unclear if the gunshots were fired at the deputies intentionally. The sheriff’s office says the scene has been canvassed and officials have not found anything suspicious at this time.

DETROIT – A 50-year-old Wayne County Sheriff’s deputy corporal has died after being assaulted Wednesday at the Wayne County Jail in Downtown Detroit, the Sheriff’s Office said.
