A man is facing a murder charge after a woman was shot in the head and found dead in a Southfield parking lot.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jerremy Thompkins, 43, of Detroit, in connection with the sexual assault of minors in Farmington.

Southfield police said a “very bizarre” chase ended with a driver and a woman previously thought to be a kidnapping victim both hiding from officers in separate garbage cans.

The cause of a house fire on Detroit’s west side is under investigation.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Police are investigating a reported home invasion that happened Sunday around 1:10 a.m. at a home on Oxford Avenue near Shiawassee Street, where an unknown man was found standing just inside the front door of the residence. The intruder is described as a black man between 20 to 25 years old who was wearing a white colored hooded sweatshirt and dark colored baseball cap. Police say he fled the area in a gray colored SUV southbound on Oxford Avenue toward Independence Street. Officers are conducting increased patrols in the area.
